 a bit more help (new)
I posted this in the tech forum but with being impatient i had to bring it to this forum, anwyays
here it is, i start my pc up and everything lags my music stutters and distorts my mouse turns on but only until the xp loading screen is done and my pc lags around when im doing my everyday tasks. Could this be a harddrive problem? and i just upgraded to a better video card and my powersupply is probably in the 300 watt area, but to see if this was the problem i unhooked all case fans (Front, sides and back fans) to see if it would make a difference, not liek the fans matter anymore cuz this card stays nearly room temp. Does anyone have any ideas.

To me it smells like some nig is eating up your CPU resources. Ctrl-Alt-Delete that bitch, find it and end the processes.
If the problem happens when you start up the computer, go to Start> Run and type in "msconfig" then find that AFRICAN AMERICAN in the start up tab and disable him.

Ocelot says power supply however i don't agree. I'd stop the overclocking and see if that helps if it doesn't do what sexy kittens said and msconfig.exe go to bootup tab and uncheck all the unwanted programs that you have. That's just what i'd do. Also possibly running a scan to see if you have an unwanted program ;)

This time it actually DOES sound like a power supply issue. As the capacitors in the power supply start to break down, the voltage regulators become unstable. If you overclock, it'll just make things worse because the electrical current requirements get even higher for the overclocked components.
The performance issue does sound power related. It's similar to what happens when your car is running out of gas or running on shitty fuel. It's not capable of delivering full-power to the components, so they run like shittier components. Like, if you have a 2.0Ghhz Processor, 1G ram, and a 7,200RPM hard drive running with a power supply that has 20% reduced capacity, it'll have more than a 20% reduction in performance. Most power supply sensors don't read this error because they take their readings before the controlled devices. It's an issue of reduced capacity, not reduced voltage, so the voltage readings are misleading.

ya ya eat it up Ocelot lol. Take all the pride away from me. Yeah seeing as i'm in automotive technology for college, i'm surprised it didn't hit me until Corpse put up the info on capacitors, resisters, and regulators. Yeah it's your power supply

contact your system administrator ;) God kid your not having any luck are you. Go google the problem and maybe you'll find the problem in a forum somewhere.

You're probably using a burnt copy of XP and it might be quite possibly a BEta version of XP. IF that's not the case, just reinstall with SP2. You'll be good to go.
