 Moving
Hey y'all! So I've been pretty inactive ingame since I got back from the west, but that's pretty much how it is for me in the summer! I'm now preparing to leave my little town and move to Quebec City! That'll be so F*CKING great! Nature at the doorstep, lots of rivers around and a freaking great looking city to visit at night! Plus this is going to be my first semester in Industrial Relations in september! Can't wait! I'm moving this saturday (the 6th) into a huge appartment with 2 buddies. Thing is, this is going to be my first time outside of mom's house, leaving the nest. If you have any tips about how to make it easier for a dude to get along with 2 other dudes in an appartment, I kinda wish that it'll stay somewhat clean and organised. I know them very well, but you know, I'll know them from a totally new perspective pretty soon. Anyway, I'm kinda relaxed about it, worked all winter long in British Columbia to pay for studies and appartment, got all the furnitures and home appliances that I started collecting 2 years ago to be ready. Damn this is going to be great! I'll move my computer as well though. I'll still be active on the forums, but since I'll be on with my laptop, I won't be able to play any game until I fully move in september. Cheers

 Re: Moving
You're going to hate life, and shortly there after you will hate your so called friends. Back out now before it's to late. You're life is over... :D

 Re: Moving
Haha nah I doubt it! I'm more looking at tips about groceries, split fees, cooking, stuff like that.
Don't worry, moving there with someone you've known since you were born and another you've known for many years isn't seen as a challenge for me!

 Re: Moving
Seriously -- Keep expenses separate.
Unless you guys are actually cooking a meal together, or buying furniture together, keep that shit separate.
If you try to combine it to where everyone "pays the same" someone is going to be out a lot of money at the end of the month when you add that shit up. And let me tell you how much it sucks when your friends want to buy the expensive shit at the store for your apartment and you are on a not so expensive budget.

 Re: Moving
Well, let me make it clearer if we're going to talk about budget (because I'd love to!)
_____________________________
Our appartment is $1040/month for 5½ rooms (including electricity bill). That's $346.66 per person. F*CKING cheap eh?
We have everything we need for the appartment (fridge, oven, microwave, food, tv, sofa, room furnitures, washing and drying machines). No need to buy anything.
We're gonna pay $45/month for the cable (excluding phone, we're in 2013). That's 15$ per person.
Overall, we pay $361.66/person each month.
____________________________________
What I'm wondering: is it cheaper to do one meal for all or we buy our own food and cook our own shit? It's not difficult for us to match our schedules to task someone to cook on specified days, or plan in advance what we will cook, so then we can always have a meal ready at night. I'm a good cook, and the 2 others are average, but damn they'll get better with time, and we got plenty of recipes anyway. Of course, I'm going to head for the cheapest method regarding food, 3 dudes eat a lot of weiners.
We don't all have the same budget though. I'm the richest of the 3. One is a musician and the other a gamer. I can deal with some luxury, but I'd still rather not for the first year. We'll pay average $4000/semester which is cheap. We'll all have a part time job as well that pays around $300/month.
Basically, I just want some tips if you ever lived with other friends.

 Re: Moving
My experience was different because I lived with a woman.
I found it easier to cook my own meals because it was easier and cheaper. We coordinated days to cook together, and that was about it.

 Re: Moving
Shopping for yourself. I give myself 100 a week but im in the most expensive province for it.
Going joint will lead to issues so dont bother. There will always be a day you come home and your roomie ate what you were planning for dinner. Nothing ever works out the way you want it to no matter how good of friends you are
Designste fridge space and stick to it. Designate cupboard space as well. You can go joint on things everyone uses. Ie spices, tp for your bunghole etc so long as they undertand theyre responsible for rebuying when it runs out. I had a buddy who lived with one of his long time friends he knew since he was 3. Within about 6 months he was starting to feel ready to gtfo because his long time friend was a slob and they both worked on different ideals and time clocks so be warned ahead of time

 Re: Moving
Well you know what, I never looked at it this way.
I'm pretty sure it's way cheaper to buy everything together for one meal, but then yeah I think it could lead to issues if someone doesn't do as planned.
I'm used to buy food for the whole week, so then plan ahead. I know my buddy buys his food daily. It's obviously possible for me to make it happen, buy my food when I come back from school and I think it would be better that way if we ever make our own meal because then we'll lack space if we buy our food for the week.
Another question I had is since I bring EVERYTHING in the apartment (furniture and home appliances), should I ask for like $20-40 less per month on my apartment fees? So that way, since they're all going to use my stuff and I'm not going to use any of theirs, I won't have to pay for repairs. Because obviously, after a year of usage, things tend to break or simply lose value.

 Re: Moving
It would more than likely be cheaper to cook one large meal for three, rather than 3 separate meals. But you're going to be college students with part time jobs. I doubt that cooking schedule will last long(I mean the who cooks on what day schedule.) They're your room mates, not your wife. They'll make plans, or just get lazy and say "F*CK that! Hard day at school and work...i'm not cooking. Make yourself a sammich bitches!"

 Re: Moving
Yeah I figure that could become an issue.
Food = fixed, separate meals.

 Re: Moving
