there are some sick and twisted people in this world. I pray for the repose of his soul, God willing. He's earned that in America's eyes.

I wouldn't call the person who killed him "sick and twisted." He was mentally ill.

Still, a damn shame.

Meh, mere semantics. Sick = ill. Twisted, well... coming from my belief, murder is a twisted and evil act regardless of the murderer's mental state. Our country seems to have an epidemic with mentally ill individuals.

I'm not going to say that it's an excusable act, but considering the circumstances, PTSD even on the most mild cases can remove you completely from reality. He likely didn't know who he killed until after it was all over.

Yes this is very sad indeed. If any of you have seen the documentary Restrepo there was a book written as well. One of the main soldiers the author and filmmaker interviewed had a chilling story resulting from constant nights where they thought the taliban would try to overrun their outpost (they recieved a TON of com chatter saying they would). Because of these constant nights of fear he woke up one night while on leave attacking his wife.

War does horrific things to the human mind...this is one of them. Its sad. RIP.

I totally agree with this and believe that many Americans need to come to realize this and that if the person in mentally ill...that doesn't negate the fact that they killed someone and that they shouldn't receive punishment just because they are mentally ill

No one has said he shouldnt be punished, note he IS in jail asshole. But judging by how the two of you are talking about this you have both A never been in combat(neither have i) and B are not close with people who have been. I have a number of friends who have done 3+ tours into iraq/afghanistan who suffer from PTSD. One of whom was discharged for threatening his commanding officer with a firearm while screaming that he was trying to get them killed. "war is hell" is a very common, very old adage. Unless you have been their, or are trying to help those through the shit that have been your thoughts and comments are unnecessary.
