New MMO out, called "The Secret World" and in the brief video I watched I saw werewolves, a space type station, guns, helicopters, magic users, titan type creatures, some odd looking insectoid and other stuff that just didn't look like it belonged.

Hmmmm I watched the trailer from their site. It almost felt like they took every sci-fi movie/video game from the last decade and rolled them into a MMO.
Could be fun

I got it. It's pretty neat when it comes to story, with a lot of background info scattered around that you'll always find interesting. Combat might look sophisticated, but is just a sci-fi version of standard MMO game play, but without some annoyances. For example, you use a pistol/rifle to attack enemies and when they get close, instantly switch to shotgun/warhammer/sword and have fun. The graphics quality is just good, not amazing.

If you have ever played Anarchy Online, you know how good it was back in the day. They know how to make their games. This is a really good game, though it'll definitely go F2P due to people being wary/not willing to give it a chance.

Reborn, you must have played Anarchy well after release. Funcom is the worst game developing title out there and should have been shut down after the Age of Conan release. I will never play another one of their titles. Square at least kept their game free and it wasn't even broken, just not what they wanted it to be. Funcom took people's money for a game that didnt work for what? a year.

I've played damned near every (mainstream) MMO that's been out. How does it compare to, say, Star Wars or WOW or RIFT or DDO? (Or even Star Trek) I still have a WOW account, I haven't played it in a month or more, still have it though, always my fallback game. I hate paying 50 bucks for a game, only to get 10 hours of play out of it. I've done it with too many games...too many.

To be completely honest, other than the engrossing story and a great way to level up skills (using skill wheels), it feels like Star Wars Galaxies (post NGE) with a different skin and setting, which is the same as saying WOW set in a sci-fi world with real world guns. If you don't like the story that well, you will get bored within days. I've done that same thing that you have, paying for MMOs when they come out and then getting bored in a few days. I played the Secret World for a couple of weeks and I'm bored already.




I remember that Apex. I was talking about what happened a year later, when they turned it into one of the best MMOs ever released. I know that by that time it was too late, but they did get things right. Age of Conan had a lot of really good features and had a lot of potential. It was such a shame that so many things were lacking. I think that is exactly what's happening with The Secret World.
