Hobbit is being spread into three films.
I wonder if Peter Jackson is just doing that for the money. I know he said that it was because he filmed a lot, but I think it could take away from the movie. what do you guys think. (If you guys even care.)

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
It all depends if he tries to drag shit out in each of the movie or if he's actually going to keep it entertaining throughout each movie.

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
F*CK sake...No I'm actually kinda mad that its 3 because that's just 3-5 more years of waiting for the end. How are they even going to do this? Movie 1 will end where? Bilbo's trip to Rivendell? Entering Mirkwood? Movie 2 will be navigating their way through Mirkwood, escaping the wood elves, and then getting to the town? Movie 3 will be killing Smaug and the big battle with the orcs and goblins? 3 is a lot, 2 is the most necessary Is this confirmed or just speculation? I have no idea how 3 movies will fit unless Peter fits in every detail possible which could make it a bit slow...Then again Peter Jackson is a genius. EDIT: It is confirmed...Jackson better know what he's doing here but they are probably going to be short movies considering they only did one movie for each book, but the Hobbit is only one book and it's shorter than any of the trilogy books. Scheduled release time is December 12 2012 for "An Unexpected Journey" (movie 1) PRAISE TOLKIEN

And the only place I can see splitting it up is at the arrival at the town/woodelves.

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
He has to make it 3 movies. There were something like 266 (or 268) days of principal photography. Could you image how long the 1 movie director's cut would be?

I guess, but 3 movies for one book? I just don't see how it's going to work...It's been a while since I've read the Hobbit but from what I remember is Bilbo is enjoying his time in the Shire, Gandalf comes by and brings along the dwarves, they discuss Smaug, they start off to Rivendell, get way laid by tr0lls, reach Rivendell and talk to Elrond. They embark and reach Mirkwood, Gandalf leaves them to seek council with Saruman, there's a bit on the Necromancer who has close ties with Sauron and Gandalf may actually discuss trying to kill the Necromancer with Saruman. They enter Mirkwood, shit is ghetto and scary, weird animals and noises, they start seeing all this crazy shit and before they know it they are surrounded by wood elves and are taken captive into a large wood elf city. After 2 weeks they use a barrel or something to escape in a water system leading through the city and reach the small village. Bilbo is sick with a cold (random but I remember that lawl), they make their way up to the top of the mountain and Bilbo finds a precious jewel since dragon's love jewels and gold, and Smaug entrances Bilbo and Bilbo climbs back down the mountain and I think gets into an argument with Thorin and a few other of the dwarves because he has a special jewel. Eventually Smaug gets pissed off and releases hell on the village and a lone ranger shoots and kills Smaug with an arrow and Smaug falls into the lake and dies. Then a shit load of orcs and goblins come out from either side and a few important people die (Not naming because I don't want to spoil anything) and then Bilbo makes his way back to the Shire rich as hell.

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
Not to be off topic but since we're on the subject of LOTR it'd be super cool if Peter Jackson one day decides to make a Silmarillion movie. That would be so complex it would have to be at LEAST 5 movies but if it was well done it could honestly win as the best movie in history. That book had me entranced for a long time as I read it, made me think a lot and everything was so crazy. Definitely the best book that Tolkien ever wrote.

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
They're actually not even done shooting. Why? Because Peter Jackson decided that he wants to use a bunch of notes and whatnot that are related to the story but aren't part of the original book to flesh out the movie, which is the same thing he did with LoTR. Of course LoTR for the most part is comprised of scenes of people walking. And walking. And walking some more.
Also, I read about this over a week ago...someone's dropping the ball here. I didn't post it because there's enough LoTR fagdom between Cyning and Luke as it is.

Well no shit they're walking what else would they be doing? That's the whole point to the story is making a huge trek to Mount Doom. I'm sure some important things will be left out like they left out one of the final scenes in The Return of the King where Saruman had taken over the Shire and enslaved everybody and Merry and Pippin take charge and kill all the Uruk-hai and then Worm Tongue murders Saruman randomly and then Worm Tongue is shot by 3 arrows and killed. I guess it just didn't fit in with the story though, kind of like leaving out Tom Bombadil in the Fellowship which I support. Would not have made much sense and would have ruined the dark theme that was beginning to form

He would have been a cool character to see portrayed. But, it would have been just for comic relief since he doesn't really play a role in the war of the ring.

I don't see where he would have fit in though. They would have had to met up before the Prancing Pony, which would have disrupted the dark Nazgul campaign. It would be leaving Hobbiton, getting chased out of the corn fields by the farmer, then meeting Tom and have all this singing and shit, then the Nazgul chase. I think it was a better idea to just skip Tom, it fit the over all mood of the movie better.

He would have had to make a super amazing scenario for it to fit in with everything else.

Re: Hobbit is being spread into three films.
:( I was really hoping it would just be one. I also heard they're going to shoot it in 48 frames per second instead of 24 which is what most directors shoot in. It's definitely going to look weird. As an example of the difference, most soap operas are shot at 48 frames per second and movies are shot in 24. But I'm not really too harsh of a critic, so that won't really effect if I like it or not..
