 The Hunger Games
Anyone read the books? I plan on starting the series tonight. With all the hype about the movie right now and all my friends telling me to read it going to start. So are they worth the read?

 Re: The Hunger Games
I read it. It's a decent read. Not the best I've read. Definitely not the worst. It'll confuse your emotions, etc. Definitely heavy, depending on how much you read into it.
The only reason there's so much hype is because it's got a mediocre love story in there, and females love strong female protagonists in love stories.
I suggest you read it is more of a study on human psyche and history. Makes it much better.

Only reason i could see it talking about human psyche is about how overly hormonal kids get in relationships and their whole mental aspect in it, and given a fresh coat of vampires and blah blah blah. & the history part? Dude, please elaborate.

Read all three books and really enjoyed them. The love story is not all over the top but you do wonder all through the three books who she is going to end up with. Atleast these books don't have any gay vegetatarian vampires who sparkle in sunlight and a lead actress who looks constipated throughout her career. Someone please give Kirsten Stewart a laxitive already!

 Re: The Hunger Games
Lol. Ok,
Dehumanizing others, the effect of witnessing and participating in the slaughter of others, losing loved ones, post apocalyptic settings, effective means of controlling the masses, corrupt politicians, analysis of devolving and recovering from severe depression and psychosis.
The love story got in the way of how much other goodness was in there. I don't know how good you are at reading or how much you think into the books, but the love story was mediocre at best and the rest of it was above average.
Oh, I forgot survival of the fittest.

Her face probably wont change expression either when i give it to her

I read the book back when it (or around) when it first came out, so i was in 7th grade then, i guess i should read it over again, seems like there's alot more to it then what i thought the first time around, Hooker your a pretty intelligent guy, considering you alias on the forums Your ever read the Ender series? Great great sci-fi series highly suggest it

 Re: The Hunger Games
I read the first book, it was pretty good. I figured out how it ended about halfway through. Didn't bother reading the rest.
The dark tower series is by far and away my favorite.
If you're going to re read the hunger games make sure you read the whole series. The first alone is incomplete and might be why you don't like it so much.

 Re: The Hunger Games
Atleast the love story wasn't all weepy and mushy, it was more real then most. She is basically confused for most of the three books, basically like most women. The love story didn't bother me and it wasn't the driving force behind the story just a piece of it.
