 Windows 8 is JUNK Windows 8 consumer beta is out now and we are testing it in our it department. It's F*CKIN JUNK. I'm not going to list all the things I already hate about it, but it's basically turning your desktop into a phone. Microsoft seems to be trying to out-fail Vista.
Anyone else install it yet? THoughts?

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK I might install the beta as a dual-boot option just to check it out. Basically what it looks like from the photos I have seen is what you just said, but more importantly, it looks like something that is completely out of the question for a power user.
My advice would be for AMD, Intel, and nVidia to step up their game on the Linux front (and for Valve to make Steam run without WineX). :)

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK I thought it was designed with phones and tablets in mind. And for those devices I dont think it would be a bad option. But from what ive read and seen it would be limiting and constrictive for most, if not all, normal PC users.
Ill be sticking with Windows 7 until they come out with 9, which is probably only a year or so away at the rate new OS are rolling out.

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK It really isn't that much different then any other windows. I mean, I can still access a desktop. The only thing that I've noticed is the huge change they made to the menu. This option will be great for people who have tablets, but using it for desktops it is just personal prefence.
I actually like it just because it is an update, but it doesn't seem very special.

I actually like it just because it is an update, but it doesn't seem very special. Do you do anything with a command line or with administrative-level applets? Can you access them? _________________

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK Remember there will be 2 different versions of Windows 8 One version for ARM based systems and one not.. The non ARM version will have cmd line interface and all the jazz you come to expect from a traditional windows OS.

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK I'm going to try the consumer version but I don't expect it to be any better than the developer preview. I hate how they changed the setup so that it's only efficient with touch screen devices. (btw it only took me 4 minutes to download the whole thing :P)

Re: Windows 8 is JUNK I got it few weeks ago as a DEV preview. Played (or shall I say: I tried to play) with it. Go pissed and threw it away. The biggest issue for me was UI and inability to change that to what I like (Win 2k rules!). If they enable / allow the old school UI then I may consider trying it again. Otherwise Win7 as long it's supported.
