Looking to purchase a new computer, can't deciced if I want laptop or desk top. I understand most of the pros and the cons but on the fence. I currently have a desktop I purchased from a local custom dealer. So I kinda have high expections . Looking to spend 1200$

I dont travel enough to make a laptop viable. I will always have a desktop just due to the expandability of them. Laptops are outdated in a couple years where you can update parts of a desktop. I understand you can also do this with a laptop, but from what Ive seen, alot less options for alot more money. Just my .02.

It depend on your needs. If your a Guy that is always on the go, or attending Lan's and shit you should go with a laptop. Something with a Core i5, 6gb of ram and a Gtx 560M would be sufficient.

However you can get Alot more desktop for the price. with Crossfire or Sli and much more upgrade ability for the future.

Also if you do buy a desktop i recommend you Build one yourself as you can save costs and tailor the machine to your specific needs. If you are lazy or just lack the technical knowledge there are some vendors online that offer great Pc's

avoid alienware, its an overpriced pos brand and all you're buying for the large amount of $$ is a brand name. build your own if possible. If you'r ejust looking to play at home, desktop, if you wanna play everywhere get a laptop, I5 core etc etc, its well worth it. I just invested 3 grand into a desktop myself (full re build) and I love every minute of it.....almost too much....

I was on the fence about there years ago to about PC v Laptop, I Bought a laptop.
(asus G71) I thought i would take it with me everywhere do this do that. wrong.
It was an over priced compact PC I that i have taking off my desk maybe a dozen times. Now my compact PC is out of date and i would rather build a PC that i can upgrade over time and keep some what up to date. Which i plan on doing soon.

So save yourself the headache and little bit of coin and piece that PC you want together.

build one man. cheap and your comp will run better

BUILD your own system, you won't regret it! Laptops are only good if you know for sure your going to be taking it everywhere, but you pay a fortune for something that's only only half decent.


p.s. WOW is the puget system overpriced! I put together a i7 system without a vid card for less.

1200 will get you a decent desktop. The only reason one should have a laptop is if they're traveling or have to have one mandatory to do computer work in school with.

Never buy a cheap-ass PC. Build your own. I even have a GTX 280 and an ASUS Rampage II Extreme for sale $400 for both. Motherboard alone sells for almost $500. There's a quarter of the battle right there.

If you're going to spend money on a decent graphics card at least make sure it can run the newer games, I don't think this can. Ask bleep or strange to figure out a build for you. You can build a pretty monster desktop PC for $1200. Also keep in mind that you don't need a super beast motherboard to fit all of your stuff into, just something that is compatible with your ram, cpu and gpu.

= $400. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there's no point in regressing for video cards, and that motherboard is way expensive and nobody ever really needs something that good.

Hows your BF3 benches

It's a brand new card that's never been used. I would imagine it'll play bf3 just fine.
EDIT: checked YouTube and saw people using a GTX 280 running it on max flawlessly.
