 Blizzard Dota!
What do you guys think? Being able to play as thrall and other characters from Warcraft and Starcraft seems kinda sweet. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/maps-a ... /mods/dota

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
I'm just wondering; Blizzard DotA, (I am aware that DotA is a WC3 mod) is being released at relatively similar a time as Valve's DotA 2. !?!?????????????????????DotA?

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
I believe Blizzard holds the exclusive rights to DotA, since it was a WC3 mod, however... DotA 2 rights have been picked up by Valve as icefrog doesn't know how to program by himself.

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
Incorrect. I play all of this genre (Action RTS) and the name DOTA is not owned by WC3, but by the mod's creator, IceFrog. He has joined Valve to use their engines to create a Dota game outside of the WC3 engine. Dota 2 is the OFFICIAL sequal to the mod from wc3, but anyone can use the style of game such as Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, who are the most popular games based directly on Dota WC3 mod, (even though they basically copied alot of the heroes).

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
This doesn't explain why there's no lawsuit against Blizzard for using the name DotA in their new mod, because Icefrog holds the keys to the name, and Defense of the Ancients.

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
Oh, haha I didn't realize that was the question. Perhaps this will explain:
From PC GAmers interview with Pendragon:
“Pendragon: I don’t know the answer to that question, but certainly the original authors, such as Eul and Guinsoo, and the many contributing authors and companies such as Blizzard, have contributed significantly to the creation of DotA. The situation is not as simple as a single person having total ownership over the name. But now we are exploring options to protect the DotA name. We [Dota-Allstars, LL--the company run by Pendragon] have filed for the “Defense of the Ancients” trademark to protect the work that dozens of authors have invested to create the game and on behalf of the millions of DotA players all over the world. If we were to obtain the trademark, we would keep the game and the DotA name freely available to the mod community. That way the game can continue to be worked on and enjoyed by the independent community. We want to ensure that the DotA name remains in the hands of the community and that it is free for all to use.

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
The game looks like shit, honestly. You would think it'd look better than the first. The graphics sincerely turn me off of it. If it had some better looking graphics I'd be all over it, but there's really no excuse why Valve couldn't put something better together.

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
Because its using the aging source code.
ps, I managed to really really really piss off Pendragon to the point where he banned me from his community which is the biggest for inhouse private dota game. Still doesn't stop me from using spoof names tho ;p

 Re: Blizzard Dota!
All Dota spinoffs and the game itself have shitty graphics...this isn't suppose to be Crysis or Skyrim we are talking about...but I understand ur gripe.
