Post Anyone have some good music to listen to?
I mostly listen to progressive stuff, like Genesis, Dream Theater, Tool, Mars Volta, and I also like "trancey" stuff, like Massive attack, and Infected Mushroom. What do other people on this forum like, and, does anyone have any more bands that match my tastes?

Some links, if anyone is interested, to get this circlejerk of a conversation started:

There's an entire thread dedicated to Art and Music near the bottom of the forums, tons of people will give you opinions there.

Pretty good stuff you like. How about Peter Gabriel, David Byrne/Talking Heads?

As far as bands that are similar to what you like:

Mastodon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQo9bwQ2rQc&ob=av3e (Crack the Skye and The Hunter are more progressive albums, but this song is one of my favorites)
Opeth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8atiEPs0bQ

Post Re: Anyone have some good music to listen to?
First, Sorry for posting this in the wrong forum, for some reason, I didn't notice the other forums, just the top four.

@CPTReynolds Selena Gomez is clearly better, douche.

@Kwang! Love Peter Gabriels stuff, Phil Collins can blow it out his ass. Off course the Talking Heads are awesome.

@dirkdeagler Tried M83, they're interesting, will look more into them, thanks.

@Tazzaler Not a massive Slayer fan, but that was a good song, maybe I need to try them a bit more, thanks.

@Metalgod I have difficulty getting into Van Halen, though I did like Light Up The Sky out of those, thanks.

@Ozark_52 I recently found Mastadon, and really liked them, though haven't heard this song, and it is really good. Mastadon is rather odd, they're metal, but it's such a relaxed sound, hard to explain, similar to Tool, I guess. Opeth is an amazing band, I love the guitar work, and mix of vocal styles. "Bleak" is great, but personally my favorite song of theirs is "Deliverance".

If it's alright to keep this thread here, more suggestions would be awesome, though I can remake the thread in the right forum if necessary. Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.

Ask bleep to dig up the thread I helped him with on the overclock forums. I think I dug up some really, really old and obscure gems from my collection. Too lazy to go find them now.

Thanks for the links Kwang.

That first video was nice; very relaxing.

I've listened to a few Surfjan songs, and the one you posted was the only one I liked.

I love Coheed and Cambria, should have listed them too; their first album is one of my all time favorites.

Moody Blues were nice, most 60s stuff is great.

How about this:

Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows

Leonard Cohen - First We Take Manhattan

Sigur Ros - Glosoli

Kitaro - Into The Forest

Not quite a song, but Leonard Cohen is a genius:

Leonard Cohen - A Thousand Kisses Deep

Leonard Cohen wrote:
You came to me this morning
And you handled me like meat
You'd have to be a man to know
How good that feels, how sweet

My mirror twin, my next of kin
I'd know you in my sleep
And who but you would take me in
A thousand kisses deep

I loved you when you opened
Like a lily to the heat
You see I'm just another snowman
Standing in the rain and sleet

Who loved you with his frozen love
His secondhand physique
With all he is and all he was
A thousand kisses deep

I know you had to lie to me
I know you had to cheat
To pose all hot and high
Behind the veils of sheer deceit

Our perfect porn aristocrat
So elegant and cheap
I'm old but I'm still into that
A thousand kisses deep

I'm good at love, I'm good at hate
Its in between I freeze
Been working out but its too late
(Its been too late for years)

But you look good, you really do
They love you on the street
If you were here Id kneel for you
A thousand kisses deep

The autumn moved across your skin
Got something in my eye
A light that doesn't need to live
And doesn't need to die

A riddle in the book of love
Obscure and obsolete
And witnessed here in time and blood
A thousand kisses deep

But I'm still working with the wine
Still dancing cheek to cheek
The band is playing Auld Lang Syne
But the heart will not retreat

I ran with Diz, I sang with Ray
I never had their sweet
But once or twice they let me play
A thousand kisses deep

I loved you when you opened
Like a lily to the heat
You see I'm just another snowman
Standing in the rain and sleet

Who loved you with his frozen love
His secondhand physique
With all he is and all he was
A thousand kisses deep

But you don't need to hear me now
And every word I speak
It counts against me anyhow
A thousand kisses deep

You better hold on tight because I'm going to go through a LOT of music and its going to be sort of overwhelming at first but once you find something that strikes your fancy just let me know and I can post more of that kind. :D Good luck and have fun because these songs vary from uplifting trance to earthquake bass booms so like I said before, hold on tight the ride may get bassy.

*******not trance but bassy*********

A song by a friend of mine its techno/progressive/vocal

Sorry for the clustermix of songs I just couldn't decide on what you'd like so I just posted a bunch. Hope you enjoyed and that you consider me for the prize. Thanks!

The Drapery Falls is actually my favorite from Opeth. Bleak was just the first song I've heard from them (and is usually the song that I find gets people into Opeth).

Another band you could consider is Agalloch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ih3JVrRPE
