 Gold and Platinum
They're almost the same price right now. It's a very interesting time in precious metals. Gold shoud have never been above Platinum, these are crazy times! Some people are predicting that gold will hike all the way up to $2k/ounce...that's nuts.

 Re: Gold and Platinum
If you do have gold, hang on to it. If shit hits the fan, it's the only real investment that will last long term.

I'd still invest in silver before anything else.

But if shit really hits the fan you really think people will be using gold for a denomination? I would think commodities like gasoline, water, food would be used first before gold.

It depends on how far we are going to drop. If we are facing a total collapse of modern society, gas water and food will be the stuff to have. However, as long as there's a market and a governments, someone will still want gold.

 Re: Gold and Platinum
Gold has been the de facto standard for currency, along with silver, for a very very long time. For one thing, it's finite and much more easily controlled than fiat currency. Fiat currency by design creates the sort of issues that have caused the price of gold to be on par with platinum due to its traditionally held place in the money market.
Silver is a much more stable investment with regard to market fluctuations, but gold has generally been the higher value choice, assuming you want to buy a LOT of it. As far as food, gas and other necessities of life - the better bet would be to re-nationalize and localize the priority of having family farms and putting as much of our economy back into the local markets, and to encourage barter between neighbors of surplus goods.
