 New rig, tips for overclocking?
Just put together my new desktop. So far, so good. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12016509Things a goddamn giant. I think I have sufficient cooling to dabble in some overclocking, but I've never done it before. Any tips?

Re: New rig, tips for overclocking?
my recommendation would be to start with a 10% overclock and monitor my temps. Based on the temps at that point you can choose to Oc more or less.
Always keep an eye on those temps though no need to fry a new Pc

Pickup different memory. You added triple channel kit for dual channel motherboard. Also, the one u picked has high latency (9). I believe u'd be better of with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231440: u get 2gb more in two sticks for $10, latency is 7, lower power consumption.

Aha, thanks for the tips! I'll check into that memory, and go slow with the overclocking.

Re: New rig, tips for overclocking?
Get the ripjaws that Carrot recommended. In terms of overclocking the Sandy Bridge its pointless really right now. You aren't going to get any better performance in games but I guess if you wanna lessen your render times you can check on this forum. You'll find the help you need. http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/ BTW I recommend a better motherboard. Seriously do NOT go with intel motherboards. Trust me on this one go with one of the Asus mobo's they'll really get you what you need. EDIT: I forgot to mention the Caviar Black's are good but for that price go with the Samsung Spinpoint, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 It's just as good performance wise for 1/2 the price. Grab yourself two while your at it. To be honest.....there are some things you can definitely tweak on your build. For example get a 570 or 6950. Way better performance for 30 more bucks. 212+ is a good buy for the price. PSU is overpriced but w.e your choice you can definitely find a PSU for less and even better. Honestly....no offense is meant when I say this but...........do you want me to put together a build for you on newegg and email it to you? Ask Hooker, I can do it and do it well.

Haha, I do appreciate the input, but it's kinda late since the computer's already built. I'm just happy I didn't fry anything. Next time I'll definitely ask before I buy tho, I see I made a bunch of mistakes. So the overclocking is pointless? I wouldn't really want to mess with it unless I could get some noticeable results.

Re: New rig, tips for overclocking?
DDR2 800MHz and the lube I use is called ID Glide, it works great and lasts long and your mom appreciates it when I put it in her ass.

Re: New rig, tips for overclocking?
Here u go: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... ageSize=20Note that for DDR2 the 1.8V is default voltage, so u may need to boost it up in the BIOS.
