Post Upgrading Vid Card/Memory
Blah Blah Blah tons of these threads, but I got a ton of disposable $$ atm and was looking to upgrade my ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB and 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator DHX Performance Series.

A) Thought of upgrading vid card to Nvidia GeForce GTX 580, any reviews on this? Heard one of the cons is that it only has one GPU.

B) For the memory should i stick with this type and just upgrade to 12gb? Go less to say 8? Or change both type and amount all together?

Thanks for the help!

For RAM you don't really need 8GB+ unless you work with computer animation/modelling/film editing software or music production and you need to load a lot of HQ sampling instances. I'd stick with 6GB if it's just for gaming.

The 580 seems like a good card but honestly I'd wait for a price drop. It's pretty pricey but if you have the money you may as well right? lol

Dont upgrade its pointless. I have a 5870 and have no reason to upgrade but if you do happen to upgrade i dont mind crossfiring it if you wanna give it to me :P. Also! For gaming you will never use more than 6gbs, so far. Anything past that is really useful if your going to render. Also! 580 is a good card but its better off you crossfire 6870's or sli 560's and youll get better performance and probably cost you less. Tomshardware.com has really really useful reviews and if you have any questions feel free to PM me or add me on steam. I've helped a few nigs b4 haha ask hooker

Invest it. Do you seriously need more than a 5870? My 5770 plays every game I've thrown at it @ 1080p, max settings.

Quit wasting money.

protip 2: you might consider investment into your RCT / n00b status by decreasing length of the yellow bar on donation meter Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02

This is bad advice, especially for gaming. SSD has block design that slows down over extended reads. The only thing it's useful for is random reads, music, OS, movies would probably lag it out.

Also: Last I checked the 580 was $520, the 570 was $350 when I got it. You're paying $170 more for maybe 2 fps. Worth it? I didn't think so.

Just got the OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD), nothing but glowing reviews and only $245 after gift card, so a pretty good deal to load games and then use my 1TB HD to mass store, though it was a good setup?
