Post Question about sound systems
So I've never had anything more than basic sound from my tv so sorry if these q's are dumb,

I found a great deal on tower speakers but all the people who review the product talk about having a quality receiver as well.

SO, can tower speakers jack into a television to get sound?
If not, what type of receiver can I get that is cost effective but still has quality sound?

Tower speakers can't. You'll need a receiver. And tower speakers are generally front left and front right, if you want a good sound system you will seriously need to invest time in setup, and the correct parts. Hit me up in steam if you're really set on this stuff. I drool over sound systems.

heres what im thinking of getting for my price range which is maximum 500, these are on amazon. I have a 900 sq ft. apartment

Sony SS-F6000 Floor-Standing 4-Way Speakers with 6.5" Woofer (pair, black)- 157.95
Sony SS-CN5000 Dual 5.25" Center Channel Speaker (each, black)- 87.72
Sony SS-B1000 5 1/8-Inch Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)- 49.00
Sony STR-DH510 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver - 179.00

of the research i've done, people say Sony is better quality than people give credit to and most reviews are positive but I would take your opinion seriously cause you seem to know your stuff

ONKYO is perhaps one of the best brands you can look for.

Kwang, onkyo is an entry level brand. They're really good for that level, but they're definitely not the best.

On that note, yes. That sound system bleep has is probably the best sound system for $400, there are better ones about. If you have questions feel free to pm or steam message me. I drool over this shit.

For the price range, sir. The higher-end anal-retentive-about-audio-audiophile types of equipment don't exist in the general public consumer culture.

[edit:] I just read this after sleeping for a good 15 hours and it looks bad. Sowwy Hookeh.

Post Re: Question about sound systems
This is kinda fucked up....
But the best sound system I got fro the money was a walmart special!.
Some $80 surround thing. 4 satellite spekers, one wideband center and one sub. Of course, none of the cables were long enough so I had to get some nice cable to beable to put the satellites in the right place.

TV speakers are pretty much the same principle as your car sterio.
Your trying to push a small input to a massive output. The quality of the output depends on the garbage inbetween the source and your ears.
But, one thing I do recomend is taking the sound directly from the source, NOT the TV.
Most TVs have a lot of ground noice (especialy those F*CKING Sony displays! no idea why, but they are the worst! I used to snap the ground pin off the plugs to get rid of the hiss). So with that in mind you should invest in one or two ground lifts at least.

I used to run my surround through a sterio too. Not for volume, but the sterio had a nice mixer on it so I could cut some of the top end and boost the mid a little.
Amps are nice, but you definatly need an amp/driver with some kind of noise reduction and mixing ability.
(check your pawn shop for some amps, they might have a good deal if you hunt)

For home theater i would probably go with something like a klipsch setup like this this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+H ... Id=9388879. and add a good but not too costly receiver. You could get out for around 600-800 bucks and sound awesome.Dont let the 6 1/2 woofer fool it will pound.Just dont skimp on cables.Never use the shit they give you,buy a sub cable and new speaker wire. Its worth it.

Keep in mind home theater systems are generally not that great for music until you start spending some serous jack. Also a rule i follow is never buy speakers from someone that makes too many more things than speakers.Companies that only do one thing usually do it very good. You don't have to spend big bucks for big sound, just buy smart.

Super,

In my experience with klipsch, their low end stuff is not up to par with companies like onkyo. I will admit that their high end stuff isn't bad, and you are correct about the musical aspect.

Low end subs can't keep up with the pace and clarity seen in music. However - if that onkyo system is still $400 I would buy it. It is an awesome, awesome deal.

No man, don't take what i said as a throw off on your advice.I just figured a guy that didn't know he could not merely hook speakers to a tv,would not be a audiophile.I'm just giving a starting point. Also i didnt check the price off the Onkyo, for that price you would be a fool not too go for that setup.

my JVC system is older than me, but it has never ONCE let me down, and it still sounds as awesome as the newer stuff, just not all surround-soundy.
