Post Does anyone else like to shoot at the Range?
I know most of us enjoy shooting things online atleast, but does anyone else like to make it out to the range and shoot off some rounds? If so what kind of gun are you shooting.

I currently own a smith and wesson m&p 15-22, it is only a .22 caliber but its fun and cheap to shoot and it is built on the AR-15 platform so once I can get the funds Ill purchase myself an AR-15 and have no problem making the adjustment since they look / feel the same :).

I use to go to the range and shoot pretty regular. I found out that I'm a crack shot and don't go anymore, pretty good on the ole ego for a one eyed guy.

I don't know about the range, but when I'm down in Nevada, I like to go out to the desert with a bunch of friends and pop off LOTS of drunken (oops! Not drunken! That's pretty dumb!) rounds....

I used to shoot at a range weekly, I loved it! I find shooting to be very relaxing. Model night was my favorite, we would fill the back of the range with models and toys and stuffed animals and just go to town on them. If you get the chance shoot a rubic's cube in the dead center and watch it explode it's awsome.

i went 1 time and found it way to stressful. just because 98% of the population are idiots and then to be surrounded and all have guns is to much to handle.

I was a member at Douglas Ridge, home to Team Savage (the crazy insane long distance shooters) and had a relatively good time.

I didn't renew my membership because of 2 things:
1) NRA membership is REQUIRED, and NRA is by and large a giant marketing organization. 99% of the shit they contact you with are offers to buy something. the other 1% is inflammatory political bullshit that a 5 year old could research better.
2) The gays. I imagine it's similar everywhere. There's a line between being friendly and chatting up folks at the range with tips & letting each other shoot their guns while sucking their C*CK, and being plain flat out uncomfortably gay and trying to use the range to pick up the mens. I went twice in a week and both times a different good ol' boy made me real uncomfortable. Nothing against the gays, just stop trying to pick me up. Stop being goddamn creepy.

Anyway I own a H&K P30 in 9mm and Savage HMR17 that is the funnest thing to shoot ever.

Plenty of gun threads in this forum if you want pics.

I've never used a gun before. I'd like to join a shooting range but I have no idea about the procedure. Unfortunately, I heard it's way too much work to get started here in NY.

While i dont goto the range yet i have plans to buy a model 700 when i have funds. :) i figure its a great gun to start with and I want to eventually buy an M-24 stock and a longer barrel as well as a few other small parts. I would love to eventually hit targets at 800+ yards.

Yea the model 700 is a great gun my roomate has one :) And yea I heard those NY laws are a pain in the butt, how ever most gun ranges / stores know them really well and can explain the ones that you need to know for you! I suggest looking into it more its alot of fun :)

sure do, but its part of my job description to be able to fire anything with a trigger.

funnest thing i have ever fired was a MAr19 belt fed gas operated automatic 40mm grenade launcher.
at the range we went through 50 rounds between 3 of us armourers in training.

for the next 6 hours, you could have told me that my mother had died, nothing on earth could take away from the plastered shit eating grin you get when you fire that thing off. that was around 3 years ago in Vilsek/Graf Germany....ah good times.

for range shooting/small to med hunting, i prefer archery.

Yeah I'm going to find a local shooting range and ask about how to join. If it's too much work, I'll just wait till I move to Maryland or something.

I have to shoot at the range every year. Probably not as fun as shooting a personal weapon at a range but fun none the less. I want to get a pistol sometime just dont know yet. I dont know much about pistols or anything so i have to do a lot of research.

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 and it's amazing. Good hunting rifle for TX, but I've been using/shooting my .30-06 a lot lately.

Picture I took while deer hunting; it's my Springfield M1903 Mark II.

Here's another picture that's not for those with weak stomachs -- I won't put it directly in the thread for that very reason, but here's a link to it. This is what that rifle does to a deer's head from about 75 yards.

I got to shoot a M1 Garand with ammo provided courtesy of the US Government. The ammo was vintage, was in the tins you have to use a key to open. Pretty sweet stuff.

If you join a range, see if it has a CMP (civilian marksmanship program) which is a US Gov program. Really quite neat.

If you get thru a CMP event, you earn the right to buy CMP gear such as surplus M1 garand rifles, etc.

http://www.thecmp.org/

I will not be ordering myself an M1 because they're mostly for righties (which I'm not one of) and loading it is a pain in the ass. Other than that it's a neat rifle.

How much is a surplus M1? I'm sorta interested in buying one... and as you know, I'll be headed up to Oregon this July....

Edit: OMG DUDE! http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm

$1500 for the sniper model in good condition? FFUUUUUUUUU. Ok. I'm in.

My son got a Marlin .22LR semi-auto for Christmas, it's his first and we are having a ball plinking targets out back. The only other weapon I have is a .22LR Weatherby semi-auto they ain't gonna kill a deer but are still fun to shoot.
