Hi guys,

I figure it's time for me to spend a bit of money on a new headset. My current one is nice, but I no longer have a microphone since I dropped it in coffee. I'm looking for something with a built in mic this time and it has to go over my ears, because I can't stand anything else. I looked around a bit on Tigerdirect.ca and found 2 that seem decent:

This one is pretty basic, but on the plus side, it's cheap.

This one is obviously nicer and I've had nothing but good experiences with Razer, but it's double the price.

I'm just looking for something that has good bang for my buck but doesn't sound like crap either.
Has anyone come across good deals lately? Any suggestions? Remember that if it's online, there has to be shipping to Canada, eh!

i have both of those headsets.. the gamecom is awesome in terms of sound, you can actually feel the rumble of the bass in your skull. however, it is extremely tight fitting, and takes some getting used to if your not used to full ear cup design. they will break in tho.

the razer is very comfortable. the sound is.. blah. it doesnt hit the low notes like i would like. not as crisp as the gamecom. but if you are going to be wearing a headset for 12 hours straight, that is the one you want.

i would go with the gamecom if you dont have a fat face like mine, the price is right and the sound is pretty damn good. if you want comfort over sound, go with the razer.

I have the Razer on es. I like them a lot! But listen to High. He has both and can give you good input on either one. The Razers are VERY comfortable. I can wear them for hours and instead of making your ears hurt, you forget they are even on your head(litteraly, i've gotten up and started to walk away then the cord yanked lol.)

I use this this and don't have any complaints -- but its all I've really used since I put away the training wheels / radioshack $9.99 special.

For Creative, I'd recommend the Sound Blaster Arenas, almost the same thing as what fomenta posted, but not fag ass fatal1ty brand bullshit.

I use the SteelSeries Siberia v2. Best thing I've ever owned for gaming. I hear things on maps that people can't even if they try. Music isn't the best for bass, but I have another wireless headset from Creative(wireless WoW headset) that I won a few months ago that is baller for music.
Don't get the 3h, 4h, 5h, 5hv2. I've heard great things about the new 7H, but they are a little high and they'll probably come out with a bigger, better v2 with more colors in a month or 2 for Christmas.

I really wouldn't go with Senheisser since you said built in headset so I take that as having a mic and most of their products don't have mics, and the ones that do are pretty pricey.

I hate Razer so you aren't getting any Razer advice here except to say F*CK them and their overpriced light-up flashy bullshit.

I have the plantronics....i love them. Sounds is good along with the mic.

I use some Turtle Beach earforce X1(Currently renamed the Earforce X11) I have to say they work pretty well. The sound is good and they are durable (i have literally thrown mine 20 times and sat on it and they manage to work LOL). They cost about 60 bucks but they also work with an Xbox 360

Why does everyone seem to hate Razer? I bought a Razer mouse a year ago and haven't had any problems yet..

I think Gman and some other mates have Plantronics and they like them quite a bit. I'd inquire that you go lurk the forums a bit as there have been previous headphone discussion threads.

I don't recommend getting ANY USB HEADSETS, ever. Unfortunately, the Arenas' are just that. I would either invest in the ones that fomenta has, (I owned two of them and the bass and sound quality are unmatched) or get a nice pair of Sennheiser PC350. No one is better than Sennheiser. No one. No one. If you don't get Sennheiser, go with the Fatality MKII or the Fatality headset brand before the MKII. Just don't go for USB sound.

agreed, usb sound sucks donkey balls n weinarz. get a sound card while youre at it also. you wont regret that $50 investment.

I had a USB headset, audio quality was fine, but when it came to set up and just overall things it just isn't worth the hassle.

Actually I had to decide between those headsets not too long ago, my conclusion left me with neither. I actually got what I think and believe is the best bang for the buck cans+mic combo in terms of gaming and a real audio experience. I personally went with the Audio Technica's ATH-AD700's and use the zalman clipon mic. Read around that combo is a real favorite on many websites including Head-Fi. What they are can be described as extremely good quality of sound, with a bass that is not thumping or high in quantity but has a great quality and clarity to it. It has sound staging like you can't imagine, the accuracy of where you hear things rivals if not beats "surround sound headsets". Those "gaming" or "5.1 surround" etc headsets are average but for the price are sub par on audio quality. USB headsets do indeed suck as you can imagine. Thats my two cents, you mileage my vary and its really all personal preference and I recommend this cans+mic combo to anyone looking to upgrade their headsets.

I love my Plantronics, except I have to tape the mic up so people can hear me or it slips down and I sound like I'm in a tunnel.

I have a clip-on mic with the headset I use now, but I really don't like that whole concept. No one could hear me properly and it wouldn't stay on (that's how I dropped it in coffee). I actually have a pair of Zalman's right now and the sound quality is great but again, the mic is stupid. I'm just worried that if I go for something lower end (like the first link I posted) that I might regret not getting the superior sound quality. I never really play for more than 1-2 hours at a time now days, so comfort for 5+ hours of gaming isn't really an issue.

I'm a fan of the stand-up mic and buying really good headphones without a built-in mic. Currently I'm using these:

and they are uncomfortable. The sound quality isn't terrible but definitely prefer my Sennheisers.

Yea I know you hate clip on mics but really if you attach it to the headphone cord it'll never fall off. Also, everything he said is true as well, sucks for music but i only use it for gaming

Anyone know a good USB headset that's good for gaming and listening to music that's not too expensive? My 13 inch macbook pro only has a headphone jack :/
