So my university is offering the flu shot which includes H1N1 for $5, as they do every fall semester. I was talking to my senior design teammate and he told me that he never gets it, because he read/heard somewhere that that is how the government is controlling world population from overpopulation by shortening life span.
He also said he's gotten the flu every damn year.
What's your take? (I'll be getting the shot. Getting sick sucks)

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
LOL @ silly conspiracy theorists. Get the flu shot, you'll be thankful when you're not coughing up mucous, shaking with chills, sweating with a fever with cramping and soreness all over.
The flu shot , is last year's flu virus that has been processed to inject into this years population. It is meant to infect you on purpose, with the intent of building immunites to the flu for the current year...untill it mutates again and u get it next year.
Any human being that voluntarily injects himself with this shot of last year's flu is a goddmamn braindead idiot. This shot does not protect you from the current strain of flu or provide you with antibodies of future flu viruses. Flu shots are a complete wASTE of money and resources, and do not protect you from a continuing evolving strain of the flu virus. Which is why people who get flu shots often get the flu.....cant protect yourself when you are recieving LAST years strain of the virus.

There's not just one strain of flu going around, but a whole bunch if I'm correct. You are correct in saying that if it does mutate you're SOL, but I can say for a fact that my live-in girlfriend at the time didn't take the shot while I did, she got infected and I didn't, even with full contact. I was also living with 3 roommates, one of em and myself got the shot, the other two didn't and got the flu, we didn't.
I'll take the $5 chance, but that's not the issue. The issue is that some people think the government puts shit in this to actually shorten your life... I knew people like this existed, but never knew he'd be a peer :P
I was forced flu shots in the army, and got sick evrytime, then later in every year got the flu again.

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
I thought that the flu shot just gave your body a better chance of fighting off the flu by giving it antibodies for the old strains, but the new strain is just a bit different so it's not totally effective but it is supose to help.
but I'm with Luff and Tazz, once a year total body crash, the rest of the time maybe a sniffel.

id like to ask your friend what the problem is with that.. or are we just supposed to breed until we cant feed ourselves anymore. if that was the case also, why would all our countries democrats pass health care legislation basically forcing people to to have health care?

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
This might make me look like an idiot, but how's that different from any other day lol. Isn't a flu shot just dead virus cells, so you're body will build an immunity to it, but not get taken over by them ?

I'de rather be healthy than to have the flu for a month.

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
It's not just last years flu lol. 5 mins of reading will tell you that
Quote:
The seasonal flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against 2009 H1N1, and two other influenza viruses (an H3N2 virus and an influenza B virus). The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance and scientists' estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate in a given year. About 2 weeks after vaccination, antibodies that provide protection against influenza virus infection develop in the body.

This pretty much explains how it works. Although if it were to go indepth Id also say that it helps immunize faster against new flu strains as your memory T cells already have a base of which to fight the flu. Getting the shot can also cause you to get the flu usually by reactivating strains already in your body, or by a .01% chance getting a vaccine with the live virus, Although its rare in either case.

Yes I think the same thing, but that's only because when my mom got the shot she was rushed to the hospital and almost died.

^Truth. The flu vaccine is not meant to protect from ALL sicknesses. It is predicted which strains will be the most common over the next year, and then a select few strains are selected to use in the vaccine.
Also, the conspiracy that the government is trying to control population growth by killing people is ridiculous. It stems from people thinking that the government is building mass graves with "plastic coffins."
Warning: Video will hurt your ears for the first 5 seconds. Turn the volume down. Also, it might make you slightly retarded if you choose to believe what the video says.

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
Ditto with my luffle and tazz, I die once a year for 2 weeks.. but I haven't gotten the flu in over 14 yrs.. course if I get the shot, I'll be dead in 3 hrs or less. Highly allergic to eggs, injected directly into the blood and I'll be lucky to be close to the hospital

Re: A friend's opinion on the Flu Shot
I got my flu shot a week ago, and I'm sick. Not necessarily the cause, but any vaccine will cause an immuno reaction, which could lead to the inability to fight other infections. I never got the flu until I got a flu shot. I don't think that this was the reason I got the flu, but I certainly think it had something to do with it.

I could have got if for free last year but chose not too. I didn't get sick so I guess it was a fine decision.

I work in a hospital and I have never taken the shot.
I rarely get the flu. Sometimes the shot makes you sick.
Word around the office is that all Healthcare workers may be required to get the shot by the government. H1N1 been there, done that.
