The wife and I watched Julie and Julia so we had to make this Boeuf Bourguignon. Good freakin stuff, just google it if you want the recipe. Er, and make sure you have some cash handy, it's hella expensive to make...

look up episodes of Julia Child & Jacques Pépin Cooking at Home. Its the real Julia with a little frenchmen making some of the most awesome food Ive ever tasted and seen. CTs public access channels plays them around 9am on the weekend so I get high watch what they cook for the next 3 hours and plan whatever looks more incredible

^this
that Jacques guy makes some of the most lip-smackin' delicious looking traditional french food i've ever seen.
I tell ya, when you look at this recipe, it can be way overwhelming. I got mine from here: http://cooking.knopfdoubleday.com/2009/ ... on-recipe/ (Is safe for work) and it turned out great. It has PDFs of the recipe from the book that she wrote.
Do it from top to bottom - The main part of the recipe including all the prep and such took around 45 minutes or so. The mushrooms don't take long at all, about 10 minutes of constant attention. The pearl onions take around 50 minutes but you just need to shake em up every 10 minutes or so, microwave timers FTW. In all, you'll spend a little under 2 hours cooking.
Since the main dish takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to cook, you'll spend no less than 3 1/2 hours waiting to eat this stuff...it's worth the wait though! I served it on some steamed rice.

Boeuf is french for beef. No fanciness.

That movie just came out on Netflix Instant and I watched it today while working. Good flick for cuisine lovers.
If I were Julia's husband I'd have murdered her long ago. Can you imagine living with that voice day after day after day after day after day?

It does look very tasty, but it's too much work for me (I need ultra beginner cooking lessons). I'll be on the lookout for restaurants that offer the dish.

First lesson: Boiling water.

i believe you mean coq au vin. Traditionally made with rooster, or stewing chicken (coq is french for rooster) and a ton of pinot noir (vin is french for wine)

But srsly, Coach, I wish you could try some Tourtiere. But not the Tourtiere that comes from any places in Canada and shit, the one that originaly comes from where I live, you'd have a boner eating this meat-and-potato "pie"!

Re: Boeuf Bourguignon
u might find it, but as far as I know, since I've tried a LOT of places that were cooking tourtiere, there's only in Saguenay Lac-St-Jean (where I live) that has kept the real recipe. everyother places they cook it like it's some meat-and-potato soup in a pie... see what I mean?
I'll type the recipe for ya though, if you find a nice butcher that can mix some meat for you, you could do it really easily yourself, since it takes a day to bake, you just do it before going to bed, leave it in the fridge, then bake it in the morning, then when you come back, it's perfect.
