How much is it for a car paint?
planing on painting my impreza white, but I live too far from a place where they could paint it, and I have no idea what a fair price would be... it's actually navy blue, but it's full of scratches and shit, so I'd like to give him a fresh look... i know some of you guys are old fucks, so u might have painted ur car back in the old days..

Re: How much is it for a car paint?
If you get it anything less then $4000 I'd be carefull. I looked into getting one of my old cars painted and found cheap jobs for $2000 but the real high end goes for $6000 to $8000. Now that's in Ontario so you might find it cheaper in Quebec or near area's with lots of shops competeing. I was stunned at the costs and was happy with the old paint job for free.

Re: How much is it for a car paint?
It all comes down to many things which make the price go high or low..
What color you want Is the color easy to replicate and blend incase of any scratches/accudidents in the future Is the paint mixed with other colors/primers/flecks etc. that will make the paintjob more modern and up to date and harder to replicate or be unique (harder to do than normal) Is the paint job your getting a Flat color with a few clear coats
Are you prepared to strip and wet sand the entire car before giving it to a shop to paint (HIGHLY ADVISE YOU DO) because thats 1 of the parts they bone you on $$$$
White is a easy color to get painted.... but depends what kind of what you want. Pearl White? Snow White? etc...
If you have the time, patience and dedication you can paint it yourself ... but you would have to invest in a proper paint gun w/ air compressor and good car paint / primer / clear coat and many hours of fine grid wet sanding, guaranteed it will be cheaper and especially if your going with a flat white which is easy to do than by all means do it. you need a sealed off area though to stop things from getting on the car with a ventulated air system... Now either you can do it at home and ghetto rig it (which ive done) or rent out a car painting air chamber from a car painting place and do it in there
Quality of primer and paint too..... dont be a cheap mexifail and rattle can your car with primer than buy good car paint because it wont work, the paint will eat up the primer and look like shit
If you dont want to paint it... You can always go down the Strip n Sand your car, use high quality car primer and put on a few coats and wet sand inbetween and ask car painting places how much they will charge for the paint job...now with this being said you will run into 1 problem, No car place is going to "insure" there paintjob because you primered it yourself even if you did use High quality primer... so in that case.... Strip and wetsand your car down to save some $$$
Thats me 2 cents because ive been there and done that, its really fun to do it yourself Imo but you gotta love working on cars to have the patients to see the final product

Re: How much is it for a car paint?
I looked here once and the cheapest I could find was $1,500 but that was if I brought the dude my own paint.

Thanks a lot EnV, really helpful
And Coach, that sounds interesting, that would sure be cheaper if I'd bring my own paint, but idk if you save THAT much... I'll do homework I guess

Re: How much is it for a car paint?
Find a store that sells the paint and primer and ask them if they know any painters. I don't know if you guys have NAPA Auto Parts up there, but that's where I found the hook up here.

Protip my brother gave me a few weeks ago: never have anyone paint anything for you if they say you have to buy the paint. That means that they don't have enough money to buy the paint, which means they aren't professional at all and more likely to suck at what they do.

Re: How much is it for a car paint?
NAPA isnt ghetto though, if you got NAPAs in Austin, and we got NAPAs here in my lil lost town, that means NAPA might be good, but I see your point though

Truth At the very least they buy the paint and bill you for it so they can overbuy. Better yet they should have the stuff on hand, those are the best shops.
