So I built this "rig" three years ago....when n00bfest switched from CZ to Source. My old PC couldn't handle it. The Mother board is a EVGA, and the graphics card was a EVGA Nvidia Geforce 8800 gts. When source updated...the graphics card starting acting up. Then the other day it finally crashed. I'm 100% addicted...to this game..so what now? No one carries decent graphics cards at the retail level. Shit...instant boredom. I mow the lawn I catch up on household duties...I do my actual job work, I pay attention to my wife and kids......

So, then I remember someone said that all of the changes were meant to allow macs to play source. I've got a new mac pro lap top...so I down load steam and source and crank it up. What a pile of shit. Sound and mic are all FU, and I can't kill anyone. Screw that I order a new graphics card that night with next day delivery. I got a EVGA Nvidia 250 gts. I installed it today....as soon as ups got here...I worked from home...so I could. The graphics are fine but...my sound card is not working. Some kind of conflict...but I can't find it. So I take the sound card out and use the integrated sound. It works!!!! Hell ya...I'm just like a crack addict. I need a 12 step program. Anybody got any ideas about how to get my sound card working?

same thing happened to me and the tech from evga told me the only way my old sound card would work is if there is a newer driver for the sound card or a new driver released for the graphics card. So bassically i am sol and i have a feeling the same will apply to you.

my 768mb 8800gtx just shit the bed last month so i got me a 1gb 5770. It's smaller, uses less power (only uses one 6-pin power, rather than two for my 8800), and it's much higher performance (duh). And it's DX11. And the 5770's are cheap right now. I think mine was $180ish. That right there goes in the sore dick category. You can't beat it.

WARNING: i'm gonna possibly save you a headache right now. IF your mobo has a standard, first-gen PCI-E slot (as in NOT a 2.0 or 2.1), a 2.1 video card WILL NOT WORK. However, a 2.0 card WILL work. My cousin saved me from that aggravation and now i'm passing the knowledge on to you.

Why do I just think it might be an issue of drivers driver and more drivers.

I think it's your power supply!



p.s. it actually might be your powersupply, make sure your PS is powerful enough to run your new video card and have power to spare. Just checked and your card should have a 450 watt minimum PS.

I wish it was just my glasses...lol. Not my PS either..mine is 650 watts. The system ran like a champ for three years. The graphics card just died. The new one works great...but there is some kind of conflict that the EVGA guys couldn't figure out...with the HT Omega Striker 7.1 sound card. Newest drivers don't help...and they don't have phone tech support. Its out and I'm using the mother boards integrated sound...so my mic sucks again. I'm looking for a new card now...any ideas?
