So, i downloaded a lot of music recently, and i now have a major problem. I have tons of doules (and more) of the same songs, and most of my files have annoying names and incorrect albums and stuff. I could go through and fix it by hand, but it would take hours. Does any1 know of a problem to automatically fix these issues. I do use itunes for my iphone, so a program i can add onto itunes would work too, but isnt required. Of course free programs are better, but i am willing to buy a program if i cant get a free one. I tried a couppe of "free" programs that didnt quite work, so i thougt id ask here b4 i bought them. Thanks guys.

Also, i have been taking a windows server 2008 class 3 nights a week which is tons of fun, but has kept me fairly busy. i am gonna try to play source more often, but my brother just came home today for a month or so b4 he goes back to israel for college so it might take me some time to start playing a lot but hopefully not too long.

Foobar2000, you'll need to tweak it, get some plugins and what not and still need to do a bit of manual labour but it'll help alot. Also Remember...discogs is your friend.


Also...Have fun in server, I'm taking a two part course come here in a few weeks when school starts up. Hopefully I can learn how to use the distro along side VM workstation to I don't know, learn more.

2) where are u taking the course? is it a win server 2008 course or what? i guess technically distro is the correct term to use, i have just never seen any1 use it for anything other than unix/linux. what do u mean along side vm workstation? do u want to use vm workstation to run win server 2008? or run vm workstation inside of server 2008? if its the latter, server 2008 (i think both, not just R2) has a program called hyper-v manager which is similar to vmware stuff and works pretty well. it is in server 2008 by default.

i have the same problem, have 126 gigs of music but only about 90 gigs are acutal songs, rest is duplicates. ill look but if you find a good one, let me know

Discographies. Complete collection of an artist's work.
I have a few good sites for complete discogs depending what kind of music you're into.

Discogs is a big database of album releases and what not, they have a plugin for Foobar (its on the foobar site) where you can just look up the album on the discogs site copy the album realease number highlight the cd and retag everything. But than again you need to know the album you're dealing with and such.

I'm at a small state tech school in ND. I do not know the the distro of server I will be working (they tend to keep with the current distro as when I took my general windows couse when I signed up it was XP but they switched it to Vista (aka retarded)) on but all I know from a fellow student that took the course is that I'll be running it inside VMware on my home machine and be running three seperate servers inside VM and interfacing inbetween the three.

What helps me is downloading artist by artist. Going through the songs(listening to the first 10 seconds or less of it. Deleting the ones that are duplicates. Then naming the rest. I didn't know there were programs to organize it for you. That would be nice haha.

well, the problem i have is i downloaded these through torrents, so there is no preview.

i will definitely try foobar tonight or tommorow. hopefully it helps. otherwise i will be buying one of the other programs i tried, cant remember the name right now, when i get home and back onto my computer i will post the names of the 2 programs i tried here.

ok, so foobar wont help me with my main issue. thx anyway. i actually use vlc for video and audio, but i hardly ever listen to audio on my computer. im definitely not a big music guy.

It might just deals what your looking for..if you're looking for a program to listen to the audio and tag it for you than...I don't know man.

I don't see why its necessary to pay for a program period to fix stuff that can be easily done, with just a little bit of manual work and a program.

I think it'd also be better if you did torrents that were well...better organized files.

Ya that would make it a little more dificult. But when I name them and all that crap it's after they are downloaded.

I have the same problem with my music files. I'm a little OCD and it drives me crazy that their all different formats. I still havent found an easy way to change everything although now I pretty much only DL discographies (usually in flac when available) so at least then each artist's work is in similar format. One day I will figure out a way to do it and rule the world!!

i downloaded the other 3, im trying MusicBrainz Picard right now. so far MusicBrainz Picard seems good, but ill let u know which of the 3 i like best.

tuneup is BEAST! There is a crack for it if you go deep enough(don't need to dig much) but only do about 300ish tops at a time when you get the crack working. I did too many at a time once and ended up breaking the crack LoL. I bought it used it for a while, reformatted and forgot to download it. Might do that tomorrow.

@spyda i did get the crack, but the stupid program wont open with the version that the crack supposedly works on, even tho i unplugged my internet like it says. but i got a program, tidysongs, and it works pretty damn well and i got it cracked too.

Once I download my torrents, I go in and re-name them automatically.
