know why hot water is so much more likely to cause a burn than a metal at the same temp?

I think it'd depend on what kind of water we're talking about. If you mean just hot ass water versus, say, a hot ass piece of steel, the water would burn more because it's able to penetrate the upper layer of the skin. Metal won't. So it penetrates deeper, and that's what would cause it to burn worse.

If it was steam (water) then the burn, at the same temperature, would be about 5 times worse because it has more energy and would end up giving you a 3rd degree burn versus a second degree burn.

That's just my opinion, don't write it down on a test or anything, heh.

Yea i ended up just putting that it requires more energy to heat up the water, therefore more heat would be transferred when it was touched.

a 110 degree hot tub is hot as F*CK and hard to get in, but one can grip a dry, 110 degree steel rod no problem. your skin can maintain a microscopic barrier between your hand and the rod.

well ur pretty much right there tolken because it takes more energy to heat water than metal you have a difference in the values of delta T if you have ur chemistry book there's this awesome chart of delta T and H vaules to do the calculations.
