Well, I just learned that the fusion surgery I'm gonna have in June for my neck necessitates me quitting smoking. Failure rate of the surgery, ie, no fusion with the new bone is FIFTY PERCENT for smokers, vs. 8% for non smokers. I'm not an extremely heavy smoker, about 1/2 to 1 pack a day, but it's going to be hell, but I HAVE to be quit for at least a month before the surgery. If I'm more of a bitch than usual now you know why. Wish me luck and give me ideas for things that help and don't make me a whale with the weight gain.

well if you need something in ur mouth or something try gum alot of smokers pick that p when quitting cause they are use to having something in their mouth also for weight gain really with ur job I don't think ull have to worry to much but just try and watch what you eat before bed would be best....also GL with the surgey sucks you gotta have it done but hopefully everything goes good and we get good news on how it went and a quick recovery

just keep a piece of gum in your mouth all day long...that's how i stopped and also i moved to the states where they actually I.D. :O haha

Yeah smoking cigs really fucks your body up and sometimes it takes something like a surgery to show you just how much :(

Switch to vaporizing or eating pot and chewing gum :) You'll never miss it. The difference becomes unbelievable after you're out of the withdrawl stage.

good luck times a million. I've been going at it for the last 2 weeks with trying to quit. and good luck with the surgery. I remember my Step-Mom had it and was layed up for a bit.

Good luck with the surgery. Gum is a good one, but Chantix is a drug that takes the cravings away, it cost some money but if you have insureance its not so bad. Hope it all goes well.

chew on twizzlers, or even buy those candy cigarettes. it's all jsut about the oral fixation, like everyone else said, just having something in your mouth.

I quit with Chantix before, and it worked, but the second time I tried to quit again with it, I got psychotic. No bueno. So it's just gotta be cold turkey cause it's any nicotine product that can F*CK up the surgery, ugh.

So it's the nicotine in the cigarette that can F*CK up the surgery? Can you/do you want to smoke weed then? You could roll little pinners so that you just get a little buzz but at least you'll still have something to actually smoke. If not..good luck anyways!!

Chantix gave me cottonmouth like a motherfucker and some of the most bizarre, terrifying nightmares I've ever had in my life -- the kind where you wake up and your heart rate is 150+ and you're sweating profusely. I quit taking it. I still smoke.

Crazy, i never tried Chantix but others have told me it works.

Have you tried alternatives? Hypno or laser? Even accupuncture is suppose to be able to help with cravings I hear.

i used the e-cig to quit for a few months, then it broke and i started smoking again ; /

E-cigs still have nicotine, so I can't use it. Chantix gave me bizzare dreams as well. I quit fine the first time on it, and then when I was doing overnight rehearsals (go in at 11pm, out at 8am, back into work at 9:30, rinse, repeat) I bought a pack out of desperation so I could stay awake while driving. Stupid move. Chantix made me so depressed and angry, when I connected the symptoms, I stopped it.

Acupuncture is a good idea, there is a real Chinese practioner down the road and he take the Disney insurance (we have 20 visits a year for alt medicine) so I may be making a visit there this week.
