If you want to know what I've been going through watch the movie "Outsourced"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425326/

The movie does a decent job of highliting the differences between India and the USA.

I am an un-informed India-phile, but have never visited. I gleaned from your comments in-game that you didn't like it very much. Care to elaborate?

I'm mostly interested in how the people there are, and what the work life is like. Which city are you in? How much longer are you there for?

Is it really like in the movies where hot, big-boobed, dark skinned ladies with dots on their head wander around in nothing but a long piece of see through cloth wrapped in secret ways?

I'll check out that movie, by the way.

Ive been around indians ill be short:

1.- NEVER EVER shake your hands with this fools, they wipe theyr asse´s with theyr own F*CKING hands.

2.- Even though they live in Mexico and they should have acquired some of our cultural behaviour they refuse to take a F*CKING SHOWER.

3.- They eat a lot of garlic and/or spiced shit and they dont shower, sum that shit up into a smelly funky F*CK.

4.-All around pain in the ass to work with them.

Thats pretty much it.

I'm mostly interested in how the people there are, and what the work life is like. Which city are you in? How much longer are you there for?

Here's my current situation:
1. Internet is running between 500B/s on a bad day and 15KB/s on a good day.
2. Hot water is available only in the morning.
3. The AC in my room is not turned on unless there's "extreme heat", which by the way means 100+ here.
4. The workday in theory is 9hr and 15 min. In reality, it's until whenever you're done with the assignments. This includes the weekends. Apparently the Indian work ethic is I have to work more then my peers or they'll find someone who works harder then me.
5. Training is absolutely brutal. They are taking the equivalent of a 2 years worth of IT courses and cramming the important parts of it into a 4 month regiment.
6. I can't get a steak
7. Every time I take a taxi, I fear for my life.

As for the people.
1. The idea of a line is completely foreign to them.
2. The idea of personal hygiene is foreign to some of them.
3. The idea of privacy is foreign to them. They'll ask you about anything, ranging from "What's your salary?" to "How many girls have you fucked?" At least we were told about the salary part and also told NEVER to answer that question honestly. (We make their yearly salary in 2 months
4. There is no such thing as personal space. In America it's uncomfortable to be closer then 1 foot to a stranger. In India, the best you can hope for is 1 inch.

Some of the people here are really nice. Very few of them can pick up on sarcasm and they tend to be offended because they don't know we really don't mean some of what we say. BUT once you get into the city everything changes. The city is full of uneducated people who will try anything to make a quick buck from an American. Learn to bargin. The first price you're given is always too high. At a minimum, cut it in half.

Citywise, I've been living in the Infosys campus in Mysore since July 27th. I'll be moving to the Infosys campus in Chennai around Nov 13th. I've been to Ooty and Coorig. Those places are nice. Look though the other threads, I've posted a lot of pictures.

Seeing as how I'm working for an IT company, "hot, big-boobed, dark skinned ladies" are almost non-existent. Somehow one of my co-workers managed to hook up with an Indian model who's working here because her parents forced her to. The best way I have to describe her is that her personality is much closer to that of a western girl then that of an Indian girl.

To sum things up.
I have to say, India was fun and exciting for the first month or so that we were here. Now all of us are getting really sick of India and really want to go back to the USA/UK. There are just so many things you take for granted in the USA that are not available here in India. It's a good place for a 2/3 week vacation. Not a good place to stay for any extended amount of time.

Hahaha that just about sums it up :) You really should've gone through the posts in this forum before heading out to India. There are many guides there written by people (mainly from the UK) who eventually decided to settle in India, and are intended to save you from culture shock.

Get it right, Gin. They only wipe their asses with their left hands Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02 The right hands are used for eating food. So you just get the smell of curry on your hands, not poop Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_01

The problem is that depending on which state and city you go to, your experience could be either heavenly or a nightmare. Where I used to live, we had houseboats and luxury lake resorts all over the place, with great food and many good looking girls, but if you moved further to the north (towards the state where Jet is), things get inversed.

My first impression of indians was the same as yours, they smell bad and are really annoying, but just to clarify Indians from Goa are totally different. My ex-gf's family are from Goa and they are completely, I mean completely different than the punjabs your talking about. When I first met her she was telling me how 'other' Indians shun Goans and I saw it for myself first hand in a restaurant and she was telling about an incident the other day. I know I'm just stating the obvious that not all indians are like that for those who have never dealt with them or only some of them. It's like a foreigner coming over here and spending the entire time in the midwest and going home and telling everyone how 'country' we Americans are. Yea, and the super hot indian girls who are born over there stay over there because their treated like princesses and indian guys only come in 2 forms apparently: smelly and awkward or very into hip hop

Great info from all. Evidently I want to go to wherever Reborn lived so that I can meet a hot Indian babe. At least until Keira Knightly decides to notice me, I've sent her 5000 letters so far.

Reborn, that indiamike site I will be spending many hours on. I hate you for posting it.

My choices:
1. Get a job for 1/2 or less of what I'm making now working for places like Geek Squad
2. Go to India for 6 months, get paid while I'm there and get a raise if I survive to come back.

Not many good choices there Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_33

Also, Mysore is southern India. Chennai is northern, and from what I've heard from my Indian co-workers, it's a hell hole compared to where I'm at right now.

Nope. Mysore and Chennai are in Southern India. Mysore is in Karnataka and Chennai is in Tamil Nadu, and both states are neighbors at the southernmost part of India.

It is a hellhole if your company puts you in a hellhole. There are great places in Chennai (where many bollywood and South Indian movie stars choose to settle), but if your company is cheap/merciless, they could put you in places where it smells like poop 24/7.

It's fun to browse through those pages :) My favorite part is people getting scammed.

There's a very cool lake resort very near to where I lived (http://www.thepaul.in/). It's a bit expensive, but if you're going for a vacation, probably the best place to stay.

Sometimes when I go to the gym, I don't shower afterwords. When I wake up the next morning, my pits smell like a ripe Indian, and my taint has a smell I can taste. Good thing I work from home, then I keep that smell to myself all day long and love it.

The company is too concerned for our safety to put us in the city. They are have guest houses on their campus and I believe I'll be staying at one of those.
I think the biggest problem is the climate of Chennai is a decent bit warmer then that of Mysore and I'm finding Mysore a bit too warm for my liking. Walking 25 minutes to from my hostel to my classroom in business attire is not fun, especially.

Speaking of the Maoist, where in India do they operate, I've seen them a lot on the news recently, but the internet is still FUBAR and looking stuff up is hard.

Jet this is the first thing i found. Its a report from the BBC on them. Sept 2009. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8256692.stm

"The rebels operate in 182 districts in India, mainly in the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

In some areas they have virtually replaced the local government and are able to mount spectacular attacks on government installations. "

take it with a grain of salt but you never know really.

Jet-- I rented that movie, will give it a watch over the weekend. I'm a little jealous of your situation, even though it seemed (seems) like a "lose lose", you get to do something that very few people in the states get to do.

Too add more and restate stuff that I already typed 20 minutes about but just didn't see the prior answer to your question

North east end of the country but they span everywhere, I'm possibly thinking a tie to hardliners in Nepal which in the end are Chinese influenced, reasonable as China and India's rivalry is quite substantial, they've had border conflicts in the past.

bbc has quite a few articles on recent attacks mainly on police officials

Unlike the prior..Maoism and rebels that have Maoist roots are not to be taken lightly. Historically they are successful hands down in the region. Chinese just started as a Maoist insurgency and look what happens, same with Nepal and India is no exception unless action is taken. Maoism is a more potent and revolutionary and I'm adding my view a more violent and distorted version of Orthodox Marxism...It's crazy shit for crazy folk, there is a Maoist party in the US though well it's basically shit (its a small party full of dipshits and/or brainwashed fucks) the stuff they come up and say is just...F*CKING insane.

Hopefully if it gets too bad India might have to start swinging it's military arms which are quite strong if you look at recent battles with Pakistan, well equipped, trained, and organized they are not to note the sheer number of them.

Interesting website, ill keep this in mind when i ever choose to go there.

My Indian friend from Australia was telling me about how when he and his family go there to visit family/ect, his mom tells him and his brother not to speak because seeing they have aussy accents and speak english, the taxi drivers ect will think they are all foreign and try to screw them on everything

Adjusted? I still shit my guts out if I take a drink of the local water Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_33

But a lot of the stuff they show in the movie has become more acceptable than how it was when I first got here.

Also, internet is basically down due to a blown fuse. I can no long access the internet from my room.
