My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
Hes got family in San Diago, and Napa California, when he was in San Diago he started to aquire a small rod knock, so with the drive being 7 hours from SD to Napa, he thought he could make it. He got 5 miles outside of Napa and his engine blew. And i F*CKING loled because he DESTROYED his engines cylinder walls, check this pic Apparently what made his rod knock problem worse was when the owner before him rebuilt the engine he went cheap on the head gasket and apparently it didnt fit all the way or some shit which caused unwanted pressure in the cylinders I loled because that shits gone, but now hes got a sick SR20DET (Nissan Silvia Engine from Japan) True Story Bra

yeah except now its a pain in the ass because you cant legally register that car with the sr20 motor...even though 240sx with red top is awsome.

Lol well, the cars still registered, idk if he needs to report he has a new engine now or not. BUUUUUTTTT if anybody living in cali buys a SR20DET and drops it in their car, they are already over the idea of it being illegal lol

Re: My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
Yeah, the KAs tend to have weak pistons, but usually don't have problems unless seeing over 14-16lbs of boost (with a good tune, if it detonates, it's over). What the hell was he thinking though lol? Rod knock is never "okay" for a seven hour drive...he probably has a spun bearing or something. I don't think a head gasket could cause unwanted "pressure". If anything it wouldn't seal well enough, so he would lose compression. I couldn't it imagine being a head gasket issue...but oh well. Tis a sad day for us KA-lovers. (don't get me wrong, the SR is a great motor, but I'm a KA guy :)) That poor motor :( My build thread of the motor, on hiatus because of money issues =/ http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42751/thread hijack Nice S15 (or 14.5?) EnV :)

Re: My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
Lol Thats a S15, you can tell by how the rear end flows well with the corner of the front tear drop eye headlights, and i just have an eye for that shit.
But i can tell your another 240sx fanatic =P
As for the head gasket, i cant remember what he told me what caused the shit to go boom, but it had something to do with the head gasket but once he explained it, it made sense to me.
When i get my 240sx again later this year im going to go Turbo KA because its got more torque stock seeing it is a truck motor, and i dont feel like doing an engine swap =P UNLESS. Possible LS1 or 2 down the line? Lol but that aint happening for a while
Im looking at getting either a 91 Hatch and doing a S13.5 Front end conversion, shits gonna look hella flush, with 50mm wide body, 30mm front. Gonna look siiick, ill be sure to ask you any questions about my engine if i have any problems with the KA!

Re: My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
I'll be more than willing to help in any way I can! KAs are the shit, a lot of SR guys shit on them (was talking to one the other day, who thought any more than 6lbs would cause a catastrophe on a stock ka block) because they haven't done their research. I know the potential of the SR, I just like the torque of the KA :)
I wasn't sure if it was an s14.5, I've seen some perfect body fits on an s14 that make it nearly impossible to tell from that angle. Where did you get it? I want an s15 sooooo bad.
If/when you build your KA, hop on to ka-t.org - lots of helpful folks there. Nicoclub is okay, but there are a lot of tryhard C*CK that think they know what they're talking about when they really don't.

Re: My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
I wish that was my S15 lol. Ive owned a S13 coupe before, had to much rust so i got rid of it and now im saving for a S13.5 hatch. Unless i can find a clean 98 240sx for like 4g's lol, and if i cant find it... than S13.5 it is. More unique imo
Lol dude, i was going to run 12psi on stock internals, what do you think haha

Re: My friends blown KA-24DE motor hahaha
Takes longer than 2 months to save for a 240sx thats in good condition. with a part time job whilst i go to school full time =P
I could buy a mint rolling chasis atm but i dont feel like going out on an adventure to find a stock KA motor or than saving money for a new engine to swap in

12psi on a stock block would be just fine as long as you maintain a good tune and a reasonable afr. i've seen people DD 350hp on a stock block with no probs.
