Post FINALLY gettin ma pistol permit
well, taking the class required by the state of connecticut on the 13th, then getting my permit.

I've shot rifles and shotguns, hell i own a 12ga., but never shot a pistol. I'm pretty damn exited.

What is a good first gun? Is there such a thing? I'm a big guy (6'4.5", 300lbs) and i have big hands.
I was looking at this. but Para makes single stack PXT's too. I think the hi-cap would feel better and fill my hand better. I've read some people don't like single stack 1911's because they're kinda 'slim' feeling and feel awkward. But I am impressed by the reliability and ruggedness of these Para USA PXT's from watching the 1000 rounds in 10+ minutes torture test video they made. This thing was nearly glowing at the end, but it never jammed or stopped or malfunctioned in any way. And right out of the box factory stock, too.

matter of fact, i'll just post it.

I just love the bad-ass look of 1911s and i've wanted one for so long.

thoughts? input?

thanks.

Env lives the next town over from me (waterbury). anyways my buddy has a kimber 1911 tact with a 5inch barrell and is in love with it and hasnt fired a round yet (got it last month and doesnt want to fire it in the cold yet). cost him 1100$ so idk if thats too steep or not for you right now. Id say that since i trust him and he loves his 1911's

haha, small world. Yeah, i live in Brookfield.

I have looked at kimbers. they are really nice. As far as price is concerned, i was planning on taking out a personal loan for it, whatever it's gonna be. I've been making car payments faithfully (overpaying, actually) for over a year, so i think i'll get approved. it'll help my credit score too.

I wouldn't buy a gun on credit. If you don't have the cash for it, then don't buy it until you do. Then again, I don't take loans out for hardly anything.

If it's for concealed-carry, then a full-size 1911 might be a little too big for you to want to carry it everywhere. Just think about size/comfort if you're gonna carry it. I know you're a big dude and all, but that's a pretty large hunk of steel.

after some pondering, i think i'll wait for my tax return. it should be pretty decent.

i'm not that concerned with getting my concealed carry permit. I don't need to be packin every time i go out in public. Mr. Reilly from Waterbury on the other hand, should be packin at all times in public. Shit, a nigga would shank you for $11 in the Brass Mill Mall parking lot. heh

ugh.

Desert Eagles are overrated. Unless you have an abundance amount of cash, don't buy it. You can't really justify having one save "OMG ITS SO COOL" Just because you use it in counter strike.

Pffff.

And honestly, no one at the gun range will give a shit if they know anything about guns.

Just sayin'.

My gun club won't allow anything over .45 at the indoor range, ever. It won't allow anything over .45 at any of the outdoor ranges unless a specific safety officer is present. I assume that's pretty standard, unless you're at a beefed-up range.

Snag a deagle in one of the smaller chambers and you'd be my hero though.

i see...

I live up in the woods and I've given some thought to putting together a home target setup. There's a big ol' mound behind my house, big enough so you cant see my house if you're behind it. But thats all a pipe dream...

there's just a badass'dness about a .50ae desert eagle that trumps most of the disadvantages, lol. someone can list off the cons and you can answer them all with "yeah true, but it's a F*CKIN' deagle."

.50AE isn't the most powerful handgun round in existance. The only reason it's so popular is because of all the movie hype. The whole "zomg a 50cal handgun?!" thing is totally bullshit.

Check out these stats I just grabbed from wikipedia; I used all 300gr rounds, except for .500 S&W, as the lightest round made is 350:

Code:
.50AE:       300 gr (19 g) JHP       1,550 ft/s (470 m/s)   1,600 ft·lbf (2,200 J)
.454 Casull: 300 gr (19 g) XTP JHP   1,650 ft/s (500 m/s)   1,814 ft·lbf (2,459 J)
.460 S&W Mag 300 gr (19 g) BffBr     2,060 ft/s (630 m/s)   2,826 ft·lbf (3,832 J)
.500 S&W Mag 350 gr (23 g) JHP       1,975 ft/s (602 m/s)   3,031 ft·lbf (4,109 J)

Real niggas use .460 S&W Magnum or .500 S&W magnum.

.50AE is garbage, bro. Garbage.

.500, .460, or 454 will make your dick at least 4 inches longer.

Jump into the 4.25" barrel if you want to carry. I carry mine everywhere unless I am in a smaller tshirt and shorts. The 5" is a bitch to carry, I have carried both, at the same time because I am a bad mother gay boy kisser. You are a fat ass like me, you can handle carrying the 1911 as long as the clothing you wear permits it. Most fat asses wear loose clothing to hide their m00bs, I promote m00bs. I use a shoulder holster in the winter then a standard hip holster in the summer. If your meat paws can handle the recoil get an air weight revolver from S&W. The gun guy will tell you the recoil is unbearable, he is just a pu$$y. Roll down the window and shoot that shit sideways.

My opinion, stay away from the Taures 1911's and anything smaller than the 4.25" barrel. Nothing but trouble. I almost bought a warthog but after some research I seen to many complaints about failure to feeds with PD ammo. If you are carrying YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOUR AMMO FEEDS FLAWLESSLY.

Post Re: FINALLY gettin ma pistol permit
another question.

If one buys a brand new pistol, is a lockable case included? (im assuming yes, but i don't know for sure. perhaps it varies from brand to brand.)

Would it come with cleaning tools and/or gun oil?
