 New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
Brethren,
I've been planning to rebuild my PC for a while, which would require a new motherboard and possibly video card(s). But now I'm considering buying a fresh new computer. Alienware has a new laptop out that sounds pretty awesome, the M17x. And of course, their desktops are pretty badass too, but they sure are expensive. This will be my new, or rebuilt, gaming rig, so I would like your opinions on whether I should rebuild or buy new, and if I buy new, what PC's should I be looking into. My current computer spec's are below.
Thank you for your time.
Yours truely, Purple-Dildo ♥
PS: No I do not need a new power supply. :)
Computer Spec's AMD Athlon FX-62 (Dual Core) (2MB Cache) w/HyperTransport Technology (AM2) 4GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz 500GB HD X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound Card 2x SLI nVidia GeForce 7900GTX 512MB
PSS: Also, it is liquid cooled, but it was a shitty job. So if I rebuild I will have to take it out and get new heatsinks and new fans.

Alienware used to be cool but last I heard they are not the worth the money anymore. I would rebuild the PC, you will get more gaming milage out of it.

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
i have never had an issue with any dell i have owned, and i thought Gman said their quality has gotten better the last couple years. and one of the other things you're paying for with dell is customer service that doesn't completely suck. the PC i have now came from a small company in california, and getting them to repair shit was like pulling teeth, and they never fixed it properly after two tries. anyway, i'm not opposed to rebuilding. i guess i'm just a little lazy, and i have a feeling i'm going to run into issues with removing the liquid cooling shit and adding the heat sinks. and i don't want the down time from cs and the forums :)

Rebuild your computer. Laptops blow for gaming.
And not a good David-Bowie-Is-Going-To-Tickle-Your-Taint-While-He-Blows-You blows, but an iCarly-Has-No-Idea-What-She's-Doing-With-That-Two-Inches-Of-Fury blows.

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
If you're looking into laptops look at the HP HDX18 series, it's expensive as F*CK but also fast as shit.
However, rebuilding a desktop from scratch is much much cheaper. My friend built a rig that is a little bit worse than my HDX18 for about half the price.

I'm an owner of an Alienware Laptop...but lately I've been kinda wondering if I should of just went with an ASUS, less the hassle, less the cash, same power, I'm tired of carrying around 12 pounds of aluminum for the sake of my fanboyism. (I'm talking laptop). though my laptop was a grad gift...not a personal investment.Laptops are only needed if you travel frequently or are in my shoes and attend college and is required by the program to have one (plus travel weekends). if you don't apply to the above pc upgrade.

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
thanks for the input fellas. keep in mind that if i played on a laptop i would hook up a keyboard and mouse and my 24" monitor, but this may be the motivation i needed to get my lazy ass to upgrade this bitch.

Rebuild your desktop for gaming and buy a cheap laptop for travel purposes. Do you really need to play counter strike when your traveling for work?

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
Two words rebuild and mirco desktop. Take it any were you need and no need for a full tower anyways. The core i7 has 4 mirco boards out that are good and slap it in with a 260 for about 700 buck take that shit any were you need.

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
don't need to play cs while traveling; however, it would be nice be able to play more often than a few hours a week. a laptop would give me more space, plus the flexibility to travel with my pc without having to worry about needing a monitor and keyboard (to double's comment). however, if i can't get the same performance with a laptop, or if it's not going to last as long as a desktop (i've only used laptops supplied by my companies), i don't want to waste my money. thank you all again for your input. i will be researching what new motherboard i want to get this weekend, and i may do my rebuild next weekend, since new years will give me a couple extra days off. EDIT: actually, i've been out of the loop on pc components the last couple years. can anyone tell me if any of the mo'bo's on sale at newegg are any good? right now i have asus crosshair (the original) and it got fried from overheating. thanks again!! http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/De ... 0-_-ITmore

Re: New Laptop VS PC Rebuild
The only way I'd buy a new Alienware PC would be if it had a warranty like Hyundai vehicles. That is all
