Petruzelli, the guy that knocked out Kimbo, may have been payed to keep the fight on the feet, instead of exploiting Kimbo's wrestling weakness on the ground, suggesting some fights may be slightly scripted.

And can someone explain to me what exactly a conspiracy theorist is because it's mentioned in this article and I don't see how it applies. Whenever I see it used, I just think they're trying to say 'the nutjobs with no proof and making up stories'.

yeah, i read this article this morning. it's a very sad thing, because this could hurt the entire industry. eliteXC is too flashy for my tastes really, although they've had some good fights. i don't like mixing MMA with WWE antics. i can't stand WWE cause there's too much show and drama. that's why i haven't watched it since i was like 12.

I stopped watching boxing because of this type of thing.

CBS just ruined the image of the entire sport just because they were trying to cash in on it. It was ridiculous to begin with because they centered their whole enterprise around a street brawler with some youtube videoes that impress little guys. The icing on the cake is that their superstar street brawler got knocked out by a cross dressing guy 30 lbs lighter than him in a matter of seconds.

Kimbo is way out of his league but he still got his $500,000 + cash bonus for fighting a different guy. Props to him for one of the biggest con jobs ever pulled on live tv.

I think MMA as a whole will be alright despite this.

EliteXC (I've never really heard of it) was just trying to make a cashcow out of Slice and may have been burnt because of it. UFC/Pride don't really have the same type of poster boy like Slice that their whole company is riding on.

you haven't heard of eliteXC because you might not be a long time fan of MMA. there are many different fighting associations, similar to boxing. ufc, pride, elitexc, wec, ifc, affliction, the list goes on. there are many smaller/more local associations too (colorado sport fight, rage in the cage, etc.). i have a buddy from college who's had 5 or 6 professional fights, but they've all be with a smaller club in colorado.

you are right though, the sport will live on. hopefully this is a wake up call to the flashy fags at eliteXC to cut the crap and stick to the sport.
