WHY are there servers that do not permit profanity?

COD4 is a gory, bloody, and on single player, vulgar game.

I was recently on a server where the reasoning for the prohibition of profanity was because the admin didn't want his kids to hear such foul language.

Right. Yet, heads flying off and blood spurting from GUNSHOT wounds is shown within the protective bubble you suffocate them in?

Last I checked, the rating on the game was for people over 17. Why are you even ALLOWING THEM to play it? Especially with all the whiny yuppie assholes trying to ban video games with murderous gameplay because SOME IDIOT TEENS reenact what they see and kill a few people, thereby punishing the people in their right minds. So, Mr. Rogers, you have the arrogance and conceit to say your kid would NEVER do something like that?

Thanks to freedom of choice, in lieu of continuing play on that server, I departed with a final "F*CK you," and rode off into the e-sunset.

People are such F*CKING nimrods...

/rant

Some people just don't like cursing. If you don't like their rules, don't play there. Just because a game has an M rating doesn't give you the right to curse like a sailor on someone else's private property.

Yes it does. I bought the game, it's not like it's rated F*CKING E.

Do you pay for that server? If not, then no, you don't have the right. It's not your server, you don't make the rules.

I don't care.

Like the politically correct diaper sniffing yuppie ass idiots that try to get murderous games pulled off the shelves tell me, if you're a child, you shouldn't be subjected to such blood and gore.

I am not a child.

Nor are many of the people there.

What this parent is saying is that blood and gore is ok, but words aren't? What about that stupid platitude "sticks and stones blahhh you know?" Words sure as hell don't hurt, but blood and gore?

yeah, i understand where you're coming from, because i've dealt with this many times over the years playing cs. yes, it's a gory game with blood and the ultimate goal to murder the players on the opposing team, but the online gameplay segment of the game is significantly different from the single player.

in the single player game you don't have your captain yelling "kill the F*CKING sniper you stupid asshole!" or anything off color. you are completing your mission. during online gameplay you have no control over someone or several people annoying you, team attacking, swearing for no reason, etc. that's why people are allowed to create their own server, so they can moderate the issues they are most concerned with.

you are correct about the freedom of choice, and you exercised that freedom well. the owner(s) of the server did as well when they purchased the server and created the rules.

But the thing is, that's your opinion. Not his.

It would be different if the situation was that someone came on to a server that tolerated cursing and demanded that they'd stop. I'd tell 'em to f*** off because they should know better than to walk into any random server and expect all people to be talking about cupcakes and unicorns, what with the game being rated M.

The fact of the matter is though, is that wasn't the case. It's the guy's server, he pays for it, he can enforce whatever rules he wants to. Just because you bought the game doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want on someone else's private property.

Besides, you don't know his situation. Maybe he plays with the speakers on, but is in a room where his kids can't see. They wouldn't see all the blood and gore, but they'd hear all of the profanity going off.

He lets his kids PLAY THE GAME

His kids were on the server talking on the mic even!

That's what makes me mad.

Ok, I stand corrected on the situation part.

But still, you can turn off the blood on CoD 4, so the whole gore argument you present is sort of moot.

Also, it depends on where his priorities are. He might not mind his kids seeing violent acts, yet hates cursing (and the racial slurs that can entail with it). Do you know how many kids watch CSI, Bones? Quite a few, and they aren't bothered by the blood and gore in that. His kids might be bright enough to tell the difference between a game and reality.

I'm not saying I agree with his judgment, but the fact of the matter is, it's his server, he can do whatever the hell he wants. Besides, it's sometimes nice to play a game without hearing little kids cursing.

Insinuating that cursing is childish?

Yeah, if someone pays for a server and makes a rule that you can't shoot other players, that's his prerogative. He will probably be wasting his money because he won't get many players, but whatever, it's his money.

Rules don't need to make sense; there's plenty of servers out there so find one where you can work within the rules. Servers shouldn't be molded to your tastes unless you pay for them.

No, that little kids like to curse a lot more than adults.

Little kids do it because they feel cool since their parents don't like them saying bad words. Adults who can curse without mommy correcting them don't care as much.

My main point is, hidden in all the anger, I hope n00b never switches to such a pathetic format.

Servers are private property. You could host a server and make rule #1 if you sound like a AFRICAN AMERICAN, you're banned.

n00bfest servers seem to get more tame as time goes on - not because rules, but because people nowadays feel obliged to not scream "AFRICAN AMERICAN AFRICAN AMERICAN DOUBLE AFRICAN AMERICAN" at the top of their lungs, and a lot of the n00bs who weren't giant sandy vaginas don't play often anymore.

I should have wrote to begin with that I KNOW the servers are their "private" property. It just pisses me off that a game like this is being limited.

Whatever, I to some extent agree with the guy who limits/bans profanity. A game is a game is a game. You can easily teach your kids it's fictional and whatever, chances are they won't go out killing people, or be traumatized by images of violence. Words carry a bigger affect IMO, and between killing imaginary people and listening to real people unnecessarily cuss up a storm, which do you find more offensive or damaging of the two?

Animated violence is more accepted then foul language.

Yeah, I'm not giving this anymore thought right now, maybe tomorrow when my clarity returns.

They have every right to restrict cursing.

Can cursing be childish? Yes, yes it can be.

You don't have to curse to live, as fun as it is.

This is retarded, why do you waste your time bitching about such things?

being 12 and playing video games with blood and gore in them and having little kids hear/start cursing are two completely different things.

Yes the games setting might be mature...but it's a game.

Anyone and everyone who do ANYTHING and blame it on a video game are A) Mentally retarded B) Socially AND mentally retarded.

It's not stupid that someone doesn't want cursing on their servers.

It is stupid to argue the fact that while playing a game you can't curse.

Don't like it? Don't play there! That simple.

Geez.
