I've got say, 600 bucks, and I'm looking to buy a new guitar. The one I have now is a Goya Acoustic, and it's okay. It's not really mine though. I don't know if I should get an electric-acoustic, electric, jazz, blues, or whatthefuckever. Or if I even have enough cash to get a decent one.

What kind of music will you play most often?

Well, I don't really know a whole lot yet. So I guess I'd want something a little more versatile? If that specific even exists?

Guitar Hero II

For that price range I would recommend an Ibanez JS series. Not the cheap-ass $200 ones, not the expensive $1,500 ones, but the midrange $600 ones. Should be a fine playing great sounding versatile instrument. Once you get a taste for a particular type of music, then you can spend $1,000 - $1,500 on something REALLY special.

Don't get something cheap. Cheap shit SOUNDS like cheap shit, and it will not inspire you to play like a really great sounding guitar will. You spend the money wisely and when you hit the right notes, it will sound like some CD quality shit. You'll be inspired to try again and again.

For $600 you can get a really nice Les Paul Epiphone. Mine was $600 and it sounds great stock.

Great amp for a great price. Tons of effects and comes with a footswitch to switch between channels. Great for practice yet big enough to do a small club show.

You should talk to Madweven think he's selling a sick one for that price. $600.00 If i remember it has a case that comes with it.

Ive always wanted to learn to play the guitar ! If i put as much time into it as i did my PC i think i could be pretty bad ass. Maybe ill start someday

I'd highly suggest getting a ESP, BC Rich, Jackson, Ibanez if you like playing rock and metal. I agree with corpse on this one go for the more expensive line you get what you pay for. Also if your going to a dealer be sure to do your homework and also look in music catalogs to compare prices.

It's a good hobby. I started playing around... 8th grade. Still learning new tricks of the trade every now and then.

I know Hetfield and Hammett both use ESP guitars. They look pretty damn expensive though. As a starter, and especially because I suck, I'll probably end up going with a Les Paul.

The problem with the Les Paul is the limited number of imitations you can make with it. Don't get me wrong, a Les Paul has a super tone, endless sustain, and can rock the house through a Marshall amp like a raped ape. I had one (a genuine Les Paul Studio in Alpine White with Gold hardware. I also added the Zack Wyldd EMG pick-ups to it). It was incredible.

BUT, you can get other guitars that can not only imitate the sounds of a Les paul, but also create fair impersonations of a Strat, Tele, SG, or some other wicked unit.

A good Les Paul (or a Japanese Epiphone version, just as good IMO) will only make the great Les Paul sound, and nothing more. That's why I sold mine off. It was beautiful on the wall with my others, but I don't need $1,500 artwork hanging around not getting used.

It was split coil hum buckets, plus 24 frets to give the option to tune it lower for metal, but still has a nice cleaner tone.

The biggest thing though is get something that the neck feels good and feels great to play.

Do they make anything thats like a "starter kit" type deal. Like a guitar + amp + lessons or something ?
