Racial profiling? Authority abuse? You be the judge.
As widely reported, an incident in which Iranian-American student Mostafa Tabatabainejad was tasered up to five times by UCLA police on Friday, has been captured by a fellow student using a video enabled cell phone and published to YouTube. From the Daily Bruin: 'At around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Tabatabainejad, a fourth-year Middle Eastern and North African studies and philosophy student, was asked to leave the library for failing to present his BruinCard during a random check. The 23-year-old student was hit with a Taser five times when he did not leave quickly and cooperatively upon being asked to do so.' In a story which has raised concerns of racial profiling, police brutality and the health risks of taser use, the ubiquity of video cell phone technology has given us a first hand record of an incident which might otherwise have been a he-said, she-said affair. While the publishing of the video to YouTube has given the issue compelling popular exposure beyond the immediate campus community.
Note: If you click the Youtube link, it will take you to the actual recorded video of the student and police.

This is from a long time ago! Rules are rules its not like you can just let someone keep breaking the rules if they refuse to do so. If they hadn't done something it would be similar to allowing someone who was resisting arrest simply not be arrested.

I think the first time he was tazered could be justified, but the rest in my opinion were just a show of power if they wanted to they could of just dragged him off.

well, how long is the timely matter he was asked to leave in? if he was given like 10 seconds then that is unreasonable

um, 6 minutes.
agreeing with madcoweater
The officer at the end, the one who abused his "admin powers" should have been kicked out for threatening that guy who didn't do anything wrong.

He was resisting arrest. He totally deserved it. He also told off an officer. This ass is totally showing disrespect to an officer. That is a valid reason to do that. Disrespect to an officer gets punishment and this guy doesn't seem to understand that. He is giving the officers smart remarks like "this is your patriot act."
Plus in order for an officer to even have a taser. He must get tasered to know what it feels like so he doesn't abuse it.

dude, even if he did nothing wrong, they cannot let him stay due to security reasons, he didnt have his card on him, and how are the staff to know weather he is planning something on ucla? it is thier job to make sure that people are either known, or thrown out.
i dont want america to F*CK up again and wait for something bad to happen before they actually enforce it

he should have been beat within an inch of his life for being a stupid motherfucker. usually if you cooperate with the authorities when you get out of the public eye they will rationalize with you. its when your a stupid F*CK and try to act hard you get put in your place. you see they had to show all the students that they are serious about the enforcement of school policy. could it be possible that this was set up? could the "new" school policy mandating that all students have the appropriate I.D. on their person at all times while on school campus, cause some students (like seniors) to rebel just to be different? i believe this was an ivy league school if im not mistaken? what type of ppl go to ivy league schools? wealthy ones! so there are probably some spoiled lil brats that always get what they want and rebel against everything and had to pay the price. lol. nevertheless this should all teach you a lesson cooperate and be respectful and more times than not you will get respect in return.
one thing that tells me that this could have been a set up is the amount of times he wanted to get shocked. if he was so innocent why didnt he get moving after the first shock. another thing this video doesnt show is how the altercation started so we are really only getting one side of the story.

How could this be racial profiling? Persians are White-Aryans. Now if the people who assaulted him were black or shit skins then it would be racial profiling.
I agree that he should have been tasered once, but doing it 5 times is alittle out of control.

Agreed. He was wrong, they were 'wrong-er'. I think a little moderation is due.

Look i am a olice officer and the shit we have to put up with, you have no idea. So do what the nice police officer tells you too and you won't get tazed five times, but evidently this guy didn't get the point the first few times. Still love you guys though, j/k. LOL

I'm pretty sure after the first 3 tazes, he couldn't walk. So demanding that he stand up is a little rediculous, when they could have just dragged him off themselves.
