Do you guys suggest CRT or LCD? Because it seems like there is one hell of a price jump, and I don't know, for the money, what compares to what or what can handle more. Please discuss the pros and cons and your opinion.

Doc posted a while back a study that said CRTs could display info faster = better gaming...

Somebody might dig that article up for you. I won't.

the basics that I get out of the article/Doc's post:

CRT
- sucks at life because it emits radiation (not nuclear, retards) = bad 4 eyes!
- flickers = headache when playing/doing stuff for a long time
- friggin HUGE
- cheap

LCD
- display time lags a bit behind the CRT (the lag is only occasional and it is only 1 frame behind at most)
- small, better flat
- getting cheaper by the month
- no radiation = good 4 eyes! and no flicker
- Doc said something about LCD's getting better around the Fall season (might have said sept/august/october/I might have been sleeping)
I don't know anything about LCDs getting better so their tech is equal to that of CRT for gaming, but I hope they get better and that somebody tells me when it does...

Wedeman,

Go ahead and buy your computer, but just wait till this fall to buy a monitor. Several new display technologies are coming out, including 120hz LCD monitors. OLED monitors going to start to trickle out as well.

there are many factors that cause lag of screen updates... with CRT you eliminate alot of it...

If you're very competitive, I would go with CRT. If you're just a casual gamer like I am... a good LCD with low response time should serve you just fine. I would go with a fantastic 19" LCD... that supports 75hz.

The best 19" LCD at the moment is probably the NEC 90GX2, followed by the viewsonic 19" 2 and 3ms response times monitors.

If you wait and have money to burn... some nice LCD TVs are coming out with 120hz respone times. That should make a huge difference in elmimniating lag. I believe Hitachi claims its as fast as plasma except with higher resolution.
