Post Where were you?
Since it's a day of rememberance today, just like what happened when JFK was assassinated, people will ALWAYS remember where they were when the towers went down.
As for me, well...I was on the USS Constellation, two days out from Pearl Harbor(just left there), and about three days away from returning from a six month deployment. My dad was also on board for what was known as Tiger Cruise, where your family and friends can come onboard, normally from Pearl Harbor to your home port (San Diego, for me), and see what we do. When it all went down, I was still in my rack (bed), and barely heard people talking about it. I thought I was dreaming, still. So I went back to sleep, got up an hour later, got dressed and headed up to my work shop. Now, when I got up there...that was something completely different. Everyone was in the shop, glued to the TV we had. When I came in and looked at the TV, I thought they were all watching some action movie, because all I saw was an aircraft going into a building. Needless-to-say, they stopped all flight operations for that day (and for the rest of the time we were at sea), and we were put on alert. No one knew what was going to happen to us. There was talks about turning us around, back to Pearl Harbor, unloading all the civilians and sending us back to the Persian Gulf to blow some shit up. It was complete chaos onboard. Like I said, no one really knew what was going to happen with us. Eventually, we got the go-ahead to return to San Diego (under heavy gunship security coming into port) only a day late.
That's my story. I don't think my dad, nor myself, will ever forget that one.

Was at the WTC that day, and the next person who asks me how to get to "Ground Zero" is gonna get decked.

I was in eighth grade English class and I remember all the teachers like OMG and she turned on the TV and we all got a free day as we watched the gayness of those towers being blown up and falling.

Kind of weird but 9/11/01 is the day that I moved to the city and far away from the family farm. I actually watched the whole thing fold out on TV in the morning. It was my first morning in the ghetto, eating my lucky charms.

I was in Brazil, had just come from the US on 09/06 that year. I had spent one week in Coral Gables, FL looking for a house to rent in Miami in the week before of the attack.

After I came back I took a few days off and on 09/11 I was coming back to work, expecting everyone asking me how was it; when I got at work I see everybody connecting in the internet and talking about the first tower when the 2nd. plane hit.

After that, then everybody turns to me with that look "are you crazy to move with your wife/daughter to the US?". My family went nuts. Well, here I (still) am.

I was cynical when my teacher told me I'd remember that moment for the rest of my life.

I was wrong.

I remember saying "yeah I'm sure I'll remember it being a day 6 on the cycle, 4th period during French Class." We brought a radio in while my teacher ran out to make a call. His son worked in the Trade Center. The first day he pushed the snooze button and was going to be late for work was September 11th. Fucked up ain't it?

We lived in Cincinnati at the time but were on vacation in Ky. The cabin we were staying at had no T.V.. That moring I wokeup late turned on some news radio and the first thing I heard was "The Pentagon has been hit, America seems to be under attack." They didn't say anything about planes for about ten minutes.

I ran around yelling for the wife to get outta bed. She thought the cabin was under attack by crazed hillbillies. Anyhow it was a full week before I saw any t.v. footage.

Tragic times.

so was i. when i went home that day i was complaing about how there were no cartoons on and only this thing about the world trade centre getting hit. living in toronto and being a weiner kid i had no idea what they were and why they were so important. only a couple of years later did realize the significance of such an attack and realized how stupid comlpaing over cartoons was compared to the tradgedy that was happening.

I was going to work when i receive a call from one of the Bank's director saying a airplane hit the WTC building. The reason for that was that our main vendor was in that building but fortunatelly eerybody was OK.

Few year later we endup hiring one of their employees (which is still working with us) and he was at the WTC lobby when everything happened.

I was sitting in my grade 6 class having attendance taken, and a janitor brought a TV into the room and slammed it on.

I was at the DMV. My number was called, I walked up to the counter to tell them I needed my license renewed and a lady came from the back and was all "Finish what you need to, we're under attack". I was in a total state of WTF and they wouldn't tell me anything. So I left there and went to the gas station where about 5 people were around a neon green/clear 9" TV watching the first tower burn. I buy my beer and head out the door. My roommate and I head back to the apartment, sit down, and flip on the TV to see the second plane hit on replay. Within the hour, my apartment went from 2 people to 15 people all sitting around watching everything go down. I'll never forget how I felt when I saw those towers collapse.

i was in my 6th grade math class, we were all chillin talkin then the teacher came in looking like he was gonna cry, he told us what was going on, then went to get a tv for us to watch the news. We sat, watched and talked about what had happened. Every class was about the same. Came home and sat with my grandma and watched the news all day.
