I use a logitech headset and microphone combo. It works pretty nice, good highs and stereo so I can hear feet. (No lows, but thats fine with me) The mic on it works great too. Until my cat got ahold of the cord recently.

I got it at CompUSA for around $30.

I tried some cheap brand when I first started playing. Then I got a logitech that crapped out after 2 months. For the last 4 or 5, I've been using Sennheiser P155's and I'll never use another brand. I never knew how much a good headset helps when you play. Sennheiser has been making headphones for ages. </Sennheiser>
