I don't know whether my parents ordered this free tryout thing, or if Verizon has just started DSL service in our area, but we got a package for a wireless DSL connection :? . I'm currently using Brighthouse Road Runner cable modem, which is working fine, but because this new shit is cheaper I'm told to try it out by my dad. Apparently they're starting this service up at 6 o'clock (I wasn't really listening) and my dad wants me to try it out. I've read briefly about how it depends on location, DSL is unshared, Cable is but doesn't usually effect your connection too much...is one actually better than the other? (Disregarding that this p.o.s. is wireless).

Verizon DSL is good, but it will shut off in a storm. That what sucks about it. Plus its not as fast as Cable. What you have is good enough in my opinion. But it is up to you man. I wish Road Runner was n my area, but where I live, my internet is gay. Cable for teh win.

DSL all depends on location. Cable depends on how many people are on at a time.

what Strange said. When i was stationed in Washington state, we had DSL and it worked perfectly. Wasnt a bad connection. But then down here in FL, we have Cox High Speed cable...and it F*CKING blows ass. I want DSL back. lol.

Cable is generally better because the bandwidth is higher, but it can suck if there are tons of people on your node because they can suck your bandwidth... however if you're at a good location and you can get some nice 3 megabit DSL, then that's pretty solid too.

I had verizon dsl the actuall service was great when it worked but for the first month I had it the shit constintly had to have a verizon person come out and mess with something or there main port thing was down but once they got it working it was great. But then I had Road Runner and it ran a hell of alot faster at off peak times and around the same as dsl on peak times so it really depends on what you want to pay for.

OH! By the way....if you have cable, and you're using a splitter becuase you have a TV in with your computer or something, make sure you have a splitter with a range of over 1 GHz. All this time, when i was using a splitter with a range of 500 Hz to 1 MHz, i thought i just had a shitty connection speed. Ended up being i didnt have a good range on my splitter. Now i have one with a max of 2.5 Ghz and my connection is already like five times faster. Just some friendly advice i learned the hard way. If anyone is more technically advanced than me, feel free to criticize what i say. I know not what i speak of here. lol. This is going off what i remember the Cox guy talking about when i was on the phone with him.

You are correct Joe. CableTV and Cable Internet use two different parts of the frequency spectrum to recieve/transmit their data along the cable. Using a splitter that is filtering 1gHz and above will cause you to lose 40-60% of your Internet bandwidth.

Drink some coffee Joe. There are low-pass filters within the splitters. Think about it, you are using a splitter that attenuates(starts filtering) at 2.5gHz & ABOVE. The cheap splitters attenuates at 1gHz and above.
