If you compare the two, science has accomplished many more things than religion ever has. People have fought over religion, killed over religion, even today, terrorist in the middle east are waging a "holy war" against us. When is the last time you heard someone fight a war over the laws of physics or people being tortured over e=mc^2. If you're saying they're both theories and nothing more, are you saying that they're unpractical? At least when we run experiments on hypothesis we get results. When you pray to god the only way you get results is if you "believe" you get results. I could do that any place, anywhere, anytime. I could say a bird shit on my head and it's god's doing or I won the lottery and that's god's mysterious work too. It's unreasonable. Fallacies like that are what makes Science the clear winner, even though it's based on theories.

you are forgeting one small thing though. you are right though, science has become the clear winner lately. but back in the 17th and 18th centeries science was looked at as witch craft only lately has it risen to become the more commonly beleive in therum. more and more people are becoming intuned with what is going on in a scientific stand point. i mean look at scientology for example. it takes science and mixes it with religion. there is no clear right or wrong answer in this paritcular debate. that is why is stick by what i said earlier he has started something that will never end.

Have faith, it is good. Having no or little faith is not good. 8)

Ok, so your not too sure about God eh. Ask yourself this.
Do you believe you know and can explain everything?
Do you believe in some things that you just can't explain?
Do you believe somewhere in the universe an Alien life form exist with the potential to be smarter/more advanced then today's modern man?
I AM a believer! :!:
What about Charma? :P
Look into time and space theories. Check out String Theory and Fractal Geometry.

Nova has a really cool program on the universe. All theory of course but it raises some serious and profound questions about our reality and our understanding (or lack thereof) of the universe.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html
Its a bit long but you can watch it online and its broken into chapters.

mmm Darwin was talking about micro-evolution and not macro-evolution. Stop giving him credit for it.
I beleive in both of them. Why couldn't God use evolution as a tool for creation?
And I'm not going any further than that because I'm still half asleep.

how is a theory any different from a belief when it's not always necessarily proven true? infinte universe? space-time? theory of relativity? none of those are perfectly proven because in science when one idea is generated, a thousand theories and ideas come up from that one.
religion may be an "excuse" for war, but was never the main reason. war is based on two things: greed, and hatred. in world war II Hitler didn't necessarily hate the jews because they were jewish (besidse the fact that he was lutherin), but because of the fact that they controlled the state, money, and industries, and the german's always have hated them. pure german nationalism was such a drive of the country hitler just threw blaims out and the jews happened to be one of them, them being a certain religion only fueled the fire even more, not caused it in the first place.

Yeah, wars REALLY based primarily on religion stopped happening after the Peace of Westphalia ended the Thirty Year War in 1648.

Theories are based on deductive reasoning. Faith and religion is based on stories and things that have been either disproven or untestable things. At least theories have the ability to change.

this will never end
i will try to explain this the best i can, so i hope this makes sense to you all
in order to have a "real" arguement people have to share a similar belief.
for example if two people are arguing over a object (lets say for example a stapler) and one says its a computer, and says it is indeed a stapler where is this arguement going? absoulty no where because they can't argue when they arnt even on the same page
[/rant]
ill try to word this better and reply later

Actually science has caused more destruction than Religion. Take the atom bomb for aexample. Or the missles we used to blow up iraq, or the missles we used to kill vets, etc. Using the "violence" issue isn't going to work pyro. Science has cause just as much as religion. Get over yourself. GG.

I haven't said anything negative about anyone here and I'm just trying to express my opinion. What is your problem? And yeah, science can be blamed for wars alot easier than religion can. Science is a definition so broad it can usually be linked as a cause for most things.
sci·ence (sns)
n.
1. The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena.
2. Such activities restricted to explaining a limitied class of natural phenomena.
3. Such activities applied to an object of inquiry or study.
4. Knowledge, especially that gained throuh experience.
BTW, I'm done in this thread, cuz you can't have an argument that moves so fast through forums. If anyone cares what I think just ask me on vent or something.

it is beleived that he might have been african. at that time there were a lot of africans in that area. that is just the theory. more than likely he was of islamic decent. you know the most messed up part of this whole thing is. jesus was a jew and the jews were the ones that killed him.

Jesus was most likely black, although he may have been Arabic. Either way, the Three Wise Men would've died in the desert, Palastinian Winters and Desert Nights would make it unbearable. Christmas is also a Paegan holiday so Jesus would likely hate you for celebrating it.
Thank you and goodnight.

3 cheers for nonviolent religious shit [/sarcasm]
the spanish inquositition (sp?), the crusades, not to mention that during age of exploration christianity was spread all over the world (peacefully of course...christians would never say enslave the native people and force them to be christian...that would be just wrong...), and is the reason the majority of centeral american is catholic.
