 Re: guns and recommendations online?
well they are not total junk they are low quality and feal like a hot turd in your hand they are pretty reliable guns but thats about all good that can be said about them they are really clunky and so so in acuracy most people who own them like them but thats because they have never fired a well made firearm.

Kmbers are very acurate , and very reliable, overall a very good gun without that unreasonable price.

I'm no gun nut, but in reading this thread, as it does bear some weight in its informative value, I come across with the feeling that while Kimber is top-notch, it is also overpriced. Then you come in saying essentially the opposite. Which is it for you? Were I looking to purchase a weapon, and had a budget, what would be the most qualifying reason why I would purchase Kimber over the others? Simply saying something contradictory to what everyone else is saying isn't going to be an effective method of dissuading someone from the majority opinion (believe me, I know from too much experience in the expression of contradictory viewpoints). I also welcome input from others into exactly why one would both consider Kimber handguns to be both a fair value, and yet be over-priced for the feature-set. Please don't consider this to be trolling. I really am serious. I'm one of those people who tends to want the best that money can buy, but only if it is a reasonable purchase. I'll spend a little extra on something to be certain that what I'm getting is going to be reliable and operate in a manner consistent with its purpose. If not Kimber, and assuming that all else is equal beyond price, what actually is an unreasonable price?

It all depends on what model you want to get and how you want your 1911. Kimber's makes a decent gun and doesn't charge over a grand for one. Seriously though, if you pay over a grand for a 1911, it better be match grade, and better F*CK you at night.

Fird wrote: anyone have any experiences with ruger 1911's? They're hard to find because people wanted Ruger to make a 1911 for a very long time and they finally did (in very limited numbers). Most of them got bought up immediately, and not a lot of them hit the used market. I don't like most Ruger centerfire pistols, but seeing as how the 1911 isn't their design, I'd be more inclined to buy a Ruger 1911 over any other Ruger centerfire pistol. BTW, a lot of my hatred for Ruger comes from their support for the 1994 assault weapons ban that Clinton ordered. Kwang! wrote: Composur3 wrote: Kmbers are very acurate , and very reliable, overall a very good gun without that unreasonable price. They make a lot of $1000-2500 1911's that are nowhere near the quality you'd get in a Dan Wesson 1911 for the same price. I'll go ahead and be a dickhead and use a broad, sweeping generalization: people who buy entry-level Kimber 1911's don't know much about 1911's. A $500 Auto-Ordnance or a $650 Springfield 1911 with some trigger work and basic smithing (extended firing pin, lighter hammer spring, etc) will outperform that $900-1000 Kimber all day long.

 Re: guns and recommendations online?
Double-post but this is the tl;dr version:
If you want to buy a 1911, figure out how much you want to spend. If you want to spend less than $1000, get a Colt, Springfield, Auto-Ordnance, Rock Island, or something like that for $500-800 and have a gunsmith do a $100-200 trigger job on it. If you have money left over, get some good sights.
If you want to spend $2000, take a good hard look at the Dan Wesson line of 1911s. Les Baer also makes some really nice higher-end 1911s and they're worth a look if you can get your hands on one in person. Most stores don't stock them because they're a specialty item.
That being said, if you AREN'T a competition shooter or don't plan on spending a lot of time by yourself in bear country and still want to spend $2000+ on a 1911, you should probably reconsider. For your average, every-day shooter, a cheaper 1911 will do you just fine if you give it the right amount of attention.

 Re: guns and recommendations online?
Is a 1911 a comfortable pistol to carry in a hip holster? My state is open carry and you don't need a permit or anything to own a gun unless it's concealed. By open carry I mean I could walk into walmart and not get arrested, but if I go into a school zone my ass is grass.
Keep in mind, I'm almost 6 feet tall and I weigh less than 160lbs. I also have 'basketball player hands'.

 Re: guns and recommendations online?
I have to disagree with all the negative comments about Kimber, like any other gun you get what you pay for. If I had to choose a baseline Kimber or a Ruger 1911 with a bunch of custom work and add ons I would choose the Kimber. Its all on what you can afford and what brand or manufacturer you like. I've yet to see a Kimber outperform a Dan Wesson or a Les Baer but has anyone ever tried? All guns have a malfunction some day, if yours hasn't than you don't shoot enough.
My 1911 was like $1200 with match grade everything and hand fit from Smith & Wesson's custom shop. Most smiths are less in price than Kimbers until you add all the crap that I have. I don't shoot professionally but I do belong to an outdoors club and shoot tournaments pretty regularly and it seems to help. Smith & Wesson provided me with a lifetime warranty and guarantees that my gun will hold 2" groups at 50 yards.
If you want all the bells and whistles and can afford it I say go ahead and do it. No matter how you cut it you are still buying a 1911 and I'd trust my life even on the lowest models (Rock Island Armory).

Prove it, most 1911 gurus are using Kimbers, Les Baers, Smiths, Wilson Combat & nighthawk custom. I guess what that comes down to is who you think is a 1911 guru and who isn't. If I could afford to own a and feel comfortable with shooting a high end I would have one for sure. I just have problems with owning a gun that I don't even want to shoot because it cost so dam much. Too many variables when comparing one 1911 manufacture to another when it comes to reliability. Accuracy is another thing though, I'd pick up the Les Baer, Dan Wesson or high end Kimber Smith etc over anything under $1000. You can polish a turd all you want, its still a turd.
