I always use silencer on m4, I don't know why...it seems like if you just do 1 or 2 shot bursts with a silencer it doesn't recoil as much, but that may just be me making up an excuse, any confirmation?

sh4dow that's like saying you don't use the mp5 anymore because you found out the colt is "stronger", both guns are equally just as good in their own respects and you have to learn to use each one individually.

My time with CS has led me to believe that:
1. Silencer isnt as powerful, but more accurate. It allows you to do long range shots alot easier, disguises your firing direction from other users, and allows for better aim.
2. Non-Silenced is raw power. A non silenced weapon has a few drawbacks like sound pickups and bullet spray. Non silenced isnt as accurate, but the power you get from the shot equals it out.
Silence for long range and hunting. Non silence for close range and explosive power.

Yeah, that's what i was saying, it seems like silencer is actually more accurate if you just do 1-2 shot bursts from long range

like lv gamer said... its a matter of preference... however, ultimately its a matter of when you gotta be silent. If you're the last guy alive on your team, i'd probably go with a silencer... less chance of the opponents pinpointing your location. If you're entire team is a live looking for the last enemy or the round just started and its a full frontal firefight... then silencer doesnt matter.

I still use my silencer for long range shots.
Lets say for instance I have a better chance of doming someone when im camping bomb in Dust2 near CT spawn in that back corner.
I can get a better shot aiming towards the double doors near long A and coming around at short A than I would if I was unsilenced.

most people think otherwise, it depends how you handle the gun and how good at you're controlling but most of the time people consider unsilenced good long range, silenced for closer to mid ranged.
for the whole stealth ninja thing, the silencer may increase the ninja factor two fold but if the people you're against actually have sound they're going to hear you no matter what if you're reasonably close, if they're across the map from you (say you're in b, they're at cat) silencer or not you won't hear them kill a partner of yours, but if they're in tunnel and your in closet you'll still hear the sounds of fire/death.

I used to always use the silencer on the M4 but i got alot better when i took off the silencer... now i only use a silencer when i might be waiting for a group of people to come by, and you can take them out one by one without them hearing the shots.

the silencer isnt COMPLETELY silent, its quiter but not to the point where (unless you have your sound on extremely low/no sound/deaf) that you wouldn't hear someone spraying with it unless you're facing complete and total nubs.

Exactly what I did. Sorry Liveundead, but my views completely contradict yours. I think the silenced m4 takes longer to reset for the next shot. If you shoot 2 bursts with silenced m4, you have to wait longer to shoot the next burst. and also if a guy rushes you, you'll have to be godly at aiming/spraying. with the unsilenced, you can shoot the same burst, but it will take less time for the recoil to settle. Also with the unsilenced m4 - if you learn to do it properly - you can shoot straight even after say a 3 shot burst
But yeah, i concede that if you pwn one way, don't change it. Silenced if you're camping/walking and they don't see you. Unsilenced when they know you're there, or at close ranged/walling. gl hf

thats not an easy thing to do but i've done it a couple of times, your best bet to even get closed to that is hide to the right of closet (there's those double stacked boxes next to closet, hide on the right) and have a flash primed, when they're rushing out, toss the flash at the corner of platform and look torwards tunnel, you'll be slightly blinded but have full enough vision to gun them down while they're blind.
