But yes, dirtbag, are you fluent in any other languages, or does the business always take place in your native tongue?

I'm guessing that even if he speaks somewhat fluently, they probably still have someone in the company that translates. They're taking big buisness. They don't want any misunderstandings. My girl used to go to China with Sharps logistics director for the same reason. No matter how fluent you think you are, there are just some things only a true native speaker can get across the right way.

Yeah, that's the reason why translators exist, is in order to bridge the gap in cultural norms which exist within the framework of language. It's not just what words mean, it's also the intent behind the words, and because of the intent, you sometimes need to say things in a way that isn't a literal or even close to an exact translation.

Exactly. Other things as well. Like dialects. This stuff makes me want to start practicing Mandarin more lol. Gotta learn a bunch before I go back.

Yeah, when I was in Vietnam I learned how to speak a very specific way that is unlike the officially recognized versions in a number of ways, specifically in how certain words are used, or slang that isn't actually part of the language but 'locals' use. Knowing that kind of stuff makes it easier to bond with someone who is from that particular area.

Purple - No I wish....still here in Shanghai. That boat is a lot bigger than mine. By the way, I bought it back in 1996 from a guy who had a matching Ford 150. He had a oops kid....it broke his heart to part with the boat.

I don't speak Chinese. The language of business world wide is English. I've never had any issues being understood. Having said that we are a global company. My boss is a Singaporean. I have Chinese, Malay, Hindi, Thai and Japanese speaking employees. The only meetings that i wish I knew a language are with Japanese suppliers. Their older Executives don't feel comfortable speaking English so there is a delay for translation....on their side.

No Tazz I'm not out...yet. Although all of you n00bfest guys talking about butts3x and touching butts...maybe getting to me. I was walking home from dinner last night...just a couple of blocks..and I got hit up by "massage" specials by a couple guys..who would drive me to the action and then three "ladies". One of which was hiding in the hotel by a bank of elevators and followed me up to my room. I think one of the "ladies" called me a old dick sucking HOMOSEXUAL when I brushed off the advance. One of the guys I almost had to pop him in the mouth to get him off of me. Fun times in Shanghai..

Well shit, funny you should post this... One of my buds from undergrad is trying to convince me to book tickets to Lake Powell with him for summer 2013, apparently they do a big party each year (Powellooza?). Do you know anything about it (I've already been directed to a dozen youtube videos)? Looks like it might be fun, however I'm skeptical since I saw no alcohol in any of the videos...

Here's the event video he linked me:

Wow....No I've not been. From the boat markings...its out of Wahweap marina in Arizona. Looks to be a lot of fun...with or with out alcohol. Depends on the time of year but...its 90 to 110 degrees...with no shade. The water is the only shelter...unless you have an ac on a house boat. The water is perfect...78-82 degrees. Tent camping...can be rough....in the heat...but u kids need to experience it.
