Sometimes if you run in a window, you have to trick the game to give you the right res you want. Another easy way is to use launch options -h and -w with the corresponding numbers after like 1680 1050 600 800 1024 768 1280 blah blah.. Just make sure you use the right numbers or your game won't launch.

I don't know, it gives me the option. Could it have to do with the size or type of screen you use ? Or is it all up to the video card ?
