Taking into account Federal, State, FICA and Medicare, I'm being taxed 48.3% a year. They want more? 28% federal tax, about 5% State tax, FICA 12.4% and medicare 2.9%. This doesn't include my local taxes that I pay for land and registering my vehicles each year, taking that into account, it's probably just a bit over 50%. Again, I ask, they want more?

RIGHT ON LOKE!
Unfortunately America is in a recession, Many of us will suffer greatly whether or not it passes, The middle class (most of us are i assume, as I) will have to suck it up. Most of us in the middle class are suffering because of the lack of jobs, I have been out of work for at least 7 months now. It is difficult, I was foreclosed on, Foreclosure rates have never been higher as far as i am aware. I personally do not care whether or not it passes, I feel America just needs to get our unemployed back to work to afford health care in the first damn place. since unemployment is at an all time high, that means income tax is at an all time low. I feel America is trying to fix its issues with the wrong priorities forward.

True Obejii. They're pushing this initiative through at the wrong time because of the rest of the circumstances that exist in our country today. But the dems know they can't get this thing passed if they don't strike while they own the house, senate and white house. Next election cycle, I imagine they'll lose the power to push through something as hotly contested as this health care deal.

So basically it's a case of "lets get our version of this new spending program passed while we have power, then when we lose power and it flops, we'll blame the other side for the failure."

Damn man you guys pay shitloads to the government and they still can't make it work :S
Coach , how would you feel if they took away your reason to pay medicare and told you that they would take 2%
tax instead and in fact saving you the 0.9 % ? The reason why i'm asking is that it's the most logical conclusion
for me as i see it.

Obejii well if they told you that they could offer you a simple job for some extra cash until you find something
as a temporary solution would you take it ?

CorpseHumper i agree that it is very sudden, but on the other hand it has to be tried out now if you ask me
if they can get this to function they can leave the issue dead and focus on the recession which is what theire
main focus should be if u ask me.

Nothing is entirely free cause the world do not work that way, just look at Cuba if they didn't need
to have a steady income to trade with the world Communism would actually work, not that i think it's
a good idea, i mean people should have the right to make theire own decisions, but it would still work.

But as far as this topic goes i personally would like to see America try to get the healthcare issue out of the way
if you start with that they will have to look at some of the countries in Europe where this exists and works and
adept some of the financial solutions aswell.

Bowie knives, gauze sponges, medical tape, hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, and blowtorches. That's my health-care plan

Looking at the big picture, I see this. They're going to take a tax from people who have income. So: 2/5 of the USA population are, or soon will be, baby boomers from WWII and they'll all be retiring right around the same time. They'll also be breaking hips and arms and getting geriatric diabetes. So, who's going to pay for that medicare? Considering that another 2/5 are either unemployable because they're too young, in college, or just not doing anything, that leaves "around" 1/5 of the population to take care of the rest. That's why it won't work, even at a hopeful 2/5, it still wouldn't work. We just won't have the workforce to properly tax to pay for this damned thing through taxes.

If the U.S. cut back a lot of the wasteful spending habbits of previous administrations and and took a good chunk of your military spending, you could afford to put in a socialized healthcare system with no added tax hikes. The money is there, you just need to have your government reapply it's spending habbits and values.

How about the wasteful spending habits of our current administration?

Capt. This is the exact problem. They will never change their spending habits until the citizens of this country revolt to show how sick of it we are. Until we actually stand up for ourselves we will never change the way the system operates and they will continue taking more and more of our money.

Speaking of our money...

Anyone care to look at a dollar bill and see who it belongs to?

All dollar bills are "loans" they are borrowed against the Federal reserve, they print the money. You never actually own the money you acquire, The Federal Reserve works like an individual corporation that unfortunately handles every aspect of our own currency. (I personally would prefer a barter system with currency as a simplified option, not currency as an absolute requirement to perform business)

-EDIT- here i found a sped up educational about it

Damn Obejii , after watching that movie i'm very glad i live in norway.
Allthough your government can declare the currency worthless and make
theire own money that acts as a "new" currency and thus making the federal bank
useless, ofcourse it will take balls of steel to put in motion something like that when u see
the power these people have over the public.

Coach i forgot that your country don't really have alot of things that you make money on
like oil and other commodities that are state regulated.. Like all the oil in this country is the property of
the government so to speak. Which makes it easier for them to invest money around the world, and
increasing the income of our society.

The government should hire me to tell the Fed to F*CK off.

I'll just confiscate all the greenbacks and draw :3's over the President's faces. BAM! Instant new currency.
