If the problem persists, we could check into doing something like that.

There's no evidence yet to support that theory. We've had some instances where 6-7 ppl were talking and the server was fine, and we've had some instances where 1-2 ppl were talking and the server crashed.

My theory is that since n00bfest is usually full, it requires more then the minimum guaranteed resources on a given machine to run smoothly. Since there are many servers that are usually empty, this doesn't matter much, as the machine will give the n00bfest server more resources since nothing else is using them. However, IF the other servers fill up, they start claiming up to their minimum, and this means the machine has to take resources away from n00bfest. The "minimum" resources number is likely based on a server being x% full. It make business sense to oversell the servers as it's statistically impossible that every server will be full all the time. The random crashing makes perfect sense if we assume it's other servers filling up that causes n00bfest to crash.

The admin files may have become too large and could be causing the problem.

I'm doing some research on the subject.

Ok I decided to do some research on this, because I hate when this happens.

From what I understand it could be a couple of things

1. Files are too big (like corpse said)
2. MOTD is too long
3. It has to do with a plug-in (maybe a mani command triggers it)
4. a corrupt file (when triggered)

I'm not an expert on these things, although I have managed 2 servers before and it seems to make sense. Read up and see, because I could be wrong.

Admin files will need to be cleaned up tomorrow AM.

I went through tonight and cleared out the log files and temp spray files again, smoothing out the server performance. However, with the crashing and reliable channel issues, I'm still thinking it has to do with the last round of admin additions making the admin file over a certain threshold.

Old admins will be removed, and shitty admins will be deleted too. I'll leave you to guess who is in which category.

:-)

It can't be the MOTD because that hasn't changed in ages, and the problem is fairly new.

Thanks for the tips, now how about something truly useful like some free porn?
