So I decided that I'd get a dual optics setup for my M4. I have a scope (that will be replaced soon) for long range shooting, and a holographic red-dot for short-range shooting at a 45 degree offset. Shit is boss.





FYI, that's a S&W M&P 15. I'll be upgrading to the S&W M&P 15 PSX here within the next 6 months -- that's the M416 clone (piston actuated recoil system). I'll be buying a can for the PSX as soon as I possibly can, too.

I don't really care about full-auto; it's too expensive to shoot and not that practical. I'd rather have a can so I can shoot without hearing protection.

Just because you have auto, doesn't mean you have to hold the trigger down all the time. Learning to control your aim while burst firing is a fun thing. Yes, ammo is not cheap, but I'm preparing for an apocalypse here, zombie or otherwise :D

That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen done to a weapon.

First of all, that scope is way too big for that weapon. Max effective range of an m4(even a good one) for a good shooter in the prone supported position is MAYBE 550-600m. You don't need a scope that big to shoot that far(or maybe YOU do?).

Second, mounting a reflex sight at a 45 degree angle? Really? You think that is practical/smart?

1) Your body position while firing is far more important than a fancy sight. There no way you have a proper firing position while looking through the reflex sight. You would either need to shift your cheek weld or cant the weapon, either way you are screwing with your position.

2) Any situation where you would NEED a reflex sight, now you are going to have to hold the weapon such a way that it's not designed to be and that doesn't feel natural(unless you go out and put 4000 rounds through the weapon, holding it at a 45 degree angle is not going to feel normal).
