Post Buying a new guitar today
Any suggestions on models?
I'm looking specifically for the Ibanez brand. I don't like the sound of anything else, really.

S470DXQM (excellent price for an S), or an RG550 or higher but not lower in number. I SWEAR by Ibanez S's. They're the most comfortable, nicest playing guitars Ibanez makes, and if you get the one with the ZR tremolo, just know that the ZR is the BEST tremolo made. Period. Trust me: IBANEZ S!

By the way, I already love this thread. I expect to see much discussion and pics.

yeah, if you wanna spend $1000+ on a guitar that really isn't as functional as other guitars. With Ibanez, you get 2 humbuckers and a single coil which makes your tone extremely versatile. Also, you get a Floyd Rose tremolo AND a reallllly thin neck for t3h shr3dz. I used to own a Gibson Les Paul. It was amazing in tone and played awesome, but I was limited as to what music and sounds I could make with it. I switched to Ibanez and Fender afterwards and I'm glad I did.

Ibanez is always good I agree with Omega on this the S series are very nice also the RG series are good. If you're into spending a little money the Ibanez Jem series is very nice. The Jackson Soloist series very pricey but very good guitars. http://jacksonguitars.com/products/prod ... 2803070830 http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=519833

LOL CARROT <333 I'm a trumpet player and the only guitar I own is a bass guitar by Ibanez. Sorry for not being of any help :(

I have played a lot of guitars, Ibanez can be good but it can also suck if you get the wrong model. The same goes for Fender. I tend to prefer Gibsons but that was before I started learning scales, so we'll see how that goes once I get an amplifier.

I really like Parker guitars but they're a pretty penny.

So I ordered it yesterday, but unfortunately it's on back-order. I'm not sure when it'll get here, but I'm the proud new owner of an Ibanez S420 Blackberry Sunburst:

YES! Dude, I cannot F*CKING wait to hear what you think of it. S's are the slimmest, easiest to play guitars I've ever played on. I do believe the Ibanez S is the thinnest guitar body made and its neck is your classic, thin, Wizard-II Ibanez neck. When I say thin, I mean THIN: Image

The only thing you might want to consider doing to it in the future would be to either install a push-pull pot in place of the current tone knob pot or to install both a single coil pickup between the two humbuckers and a 5-way-switch. I noticed you won't have any way of playing in single-coil and I've always hated having a guitar with no single-coil sound. You'll definitely want either that single coil or the coil-tap in there eventually. I would recommend going ahead and buying the push-pull coil tap pot and replacing your tone knob's pot with the push-pull because its less expensive than buying a $70 single-coil pickup, having someone route the space for it and then soldering it in.

I'm seriously stoked. Wanna see how it turns out. When I got my S, I never looked back.

That picture really didn't give it the limelight like it should have. Let's try that again.

Extremely nice color, its a very similar red to mine. I love how yours is a burst paint-job, though. Kinda jelly of that ZR trem. I have the original floyd installed on mine.

Everybody loves my sigs. It's a guy who goes by "pop" who goes to random places and moonwalks at awkward times in front of people in weird situations. This is actually his last moonwalk video and there was no sig for it, so I had to make it myself. He has his own site called popmoonwalks. Check him out!

Back to the thread, I am really pissed that I haven't heard ANYTHING at all from guitar center when I ordered this thing. It's still on backorder...

I'm looking into getting the expression pedal and the audio interface for guitar rig, as well as a nice little keyboard for all my electronica stuff. Hopefully, once I've accomplished getting all that stuff, I'll still be able to afford a condenser microphone for lyric recording. I'll be able to successfully re-master and track all the First Sun songs on the Metal genre side of First Sun.

Has fender suddenly taken a dive in quality in the past decade? i havent played the 6 in about ten or twelve years, but when i was a kid, Fender was the benchmark. im guessing thats not the case anymore?

used to own a Strat back in the day myself, but im no guitar enthusiest. im getting more into drums now than anything.

Fender hasnt take a dive in quality it's still one of the better guitars out there especially the newer models/top of the line models. I've played the Dave Murray Fender Strat and the Yngwie Malmsteen Strat and both are very well made guitars.

I think the tone is really nice on Fender guitars, but I'm more of an Ibanez fan because I feel its sound is better distorted than the Fender. I think personally that the Fender tone is still classic, and the classic tone isn't something I'm necessarily looking for. I'm not calling it soft or useless but I feel it's better with cleaner tones. 3 Doors Down uses a Fender Strat/Tele I'm pretty sure for their clean tones, and you can definitely tell it when you hear it.
