Must read if you torrent anything at all
straight from demonoid: In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday. If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US. Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-seg ... 39836.htmlAnd if you are a US citizen, please take the time to sign this petition http://demandprogress.org/blacklist/

Re: Must read if you torrent anything at all
A lot of these people will definitely be out of office come November, lets hope the rest of the cosponsors get the message. Also, this doesn't have that big of an impact (as of now) since it only requires ISPs to block the domain name resolution (DNS) of the blacklisted sites -- using some alternative DNS system is always possible -- maybe OpenDNS Also, this.

Yeah read some stuff about this a bit ago, Demonoid had it posted. I just kinda sit around and know even it does go into effect the people will morph around it or find ways to break through it. I don't worry much.

Re: Must read if you torrent anything at all
Would this proposed law even be constitutional? Restricting people's rights without a court order?

Re: Must read if you torrent anything at all
jet, there are A LOT of laws that are unconstitutional and get signed into law every year. the health care bill is one recent example, which requires citizens to purchase a good/service.

There is a concept going around that would require legislators to specifically outline how every new bill is constitutional -- it will most likely never pass -- like the "audit the fed" bill.

Re: Must read if you torrent anything at all
I actually support the audit the fed bill, I also support legislation only being passed after every item in the bill has been verified and read by all of the voting members.
