 Infinity Tech Demo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7eREddM ... ded&fmt=22some of you may have heard me talking about this game awhile ago this is a true space sandbox game that is years away from alpha but this is the newest release showing off the seamless transitions, graphics, and true to size planets gridiron and i have been following this indy game development for awhile. this game is frickin amazing and even more so when you realize its mainly just one guy and his life long dream to create a space game of a near infinite size the game website is: http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... &Itemid=33

Sandman015 wrote: nice i wonder how he put an end to the space because it cant go on forever LoL! Did you not read anything off the website? He's using procedural programming to create the universe. Basically, to start there will be core areas and anything outside of that will only be generated when a player visits that area thus making the game engine create that new part of space on the fly when the first player visits that area of space. There are entire 'corporations', 'guilds', or 'clans', whatever you like to call them that are dedicating their entire gameplay to exploring and discovering new parts of space. They will probably have a way to market this information so players can sell it to other players/guilds. So yes, the universe, for purposes of gameplay, is infinite. Take a look at the site, this game is going to be a programming masterpiece... http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... &Itemid=26Also, all the ships, space stations, and buildings are being created by avid fans of the project for free and these things are AMAZING!! If you have a minute and just browse through this>>> http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infini ... &Itemid=91Oh yea and it's twitch-based. They have a small simulator to show what flight will be like, its rudimentary but it's pretty cool. Mindless, LFS = Live for Speed? It wasnt me who recommended it to ya, I only play games involving lots of guns and violance and space fights...

I will get this if it's the last thing I do. I've been looking for something better than Eve Online for ages.

Yea, i hated Eve. non-twitched based really annoyed me, not to mention the 500 million isk of equipment i lost in transport. That was the last day I ever played Eve. I was following Jumpgate Evolution and Black Prophecy too but their taking to long to be released and they really messed up this Jumpgate. They were only to hold me over until Infinity gets released anyway.

 Re: Infinity Tech Demo
god this must be a nightmare to code. you say years, but i see this at its current rate going on for possably a decade, maybe more. its beautiful thought (the transitions from the rings to the astroids was particularly eye catching) and when it comes out when im 50, ill be sure to buy it. maybe then well have the gfx power and storage space necessary to run it lol

As far as gfx power goes, he has implemented strict design rules to combat gfx drain. Everything is very light-weight in the game. The only thing to worry about is when you'll be in a massive war. Last time I was part of the discussion a lot of us were pushing to make it extremely difficult to attack and takeover other clans space. So there are going to be epic battles with 100s of players at a time.

for a moment i thought he was going to crash into the planet... like, i'm not used at all to see games with such deep environment and so realistic that i actually thought he would hit the planet... and when he was into the ring, i was like, oh, its full of little rocks... hell no, damn that looks really awesome, i just wonder what the goal of this game will be, can't wait for updates!

It's twitched base for combat and anything that can be done in game you can do from day one as long as you have the resources to do it. Sandman015 wrote: nice i wonder how he put an end to the space because it cant go on forever With the Procedural Generation, the way he explained it was, nothing exists until its required too. Or something Along those lines. Only the Stars exist to start from what i understand unless you can't see them. But when you Jump to the star, the server creates the solar system on the fly and saves it as a permanent system. Everything is to scale so you can't really drive out into space or warp out into nothing. Warping will be based on the whether or not your ship can lock onto the gravity signature of the object. Obviously the more massive the object, the further way you can warp to it from. So if you find yourself at the end of the Galaxy, you can't do anything but sub-light speed. Oh yea, and you have to manage fuel. So you'll only make it as far as your fuel will allow you. You will notice in the video, he demonstrates clicking on the different stars and they are cataloged, that's what he accomplished around the turn of the new year i believe. This is the video of the Galaxy Procedural Generation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0nfP2SiDzY

I will say though that this game will be extremely market driven. Everything will have a price on it and whatever you want to do in the game there will be a market for it. Big ships and stations require lots of money to maintain and will only be held by bigger corporations. So to get the most out of the game players will have to be part of a corporation.
