Just to be sure, backup yo files on a thumb drive. All of your good docs. Any programs u use keep a note of what they are.

Then re-install yo PC.

Then put on a good AntiVirus before putting back your documents (use McAfee or Norton, Avast Antivirus if ur a cheap bastard) Have ur antivirus scan ur thumb drive then put yo docs back on your computer.

And that's what its all a-bout!

Edit: I don't actually use Comodo and I never run AVG because I'm not a failure at PC security, but AVG's great and Comodo is tits.

I close ports on my routers, and use Avast! as my anti virus. Even though my surfing behavior is such that I've never gotten a virus on my home network. Just a matter of time though.

I use Kaspersky and have not had any problems what so ever. I moved over from Norton cause I couldn't get it free anymore.

that is a really old post with old, and incorrect info. norton and mcafee suck ass, the only anti-virus i would pay for is eset nod32. i used to use avg, but yes, it is very bulky, i was using avira antivir for a while with comodo, i stopped using any av or firewall cause im leet like that. but avira and comodo are both free and awesome. u also need spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes' antimalware, 1 anti-virus progeam usually isnt enough, ive had malwarebytes pick up stuff no other program did, and it miss stuff other programs didnt. spy-bot is nice as well, but its only anti-spyware. if u pay for anti-virus software ur a moron.

I haven't run an anti virus in about 3 years -- I used to have Symantec but it takes up a significant amount of memory / processing time and the hooks into the OS are ridiculous and good luck uninstalling, if you do one step incorrectly you're in for a definite reformat. AVG has similarly deep hooks, but it seems removing AVG is a bit easier.

I just don't download sketchy shit or go to sketchy websites -- all my questionably-legal downloads are done through torrents that have high ratings (I'm talking only certified uploaders on tpb) and if I have any question I use an online virus scan and upload the file.

I have a pretty legit firewall on my router and to be honest, most of the time my boxes behind the router have their firewall off (I should probably turn them on, though, I'm just lazy).

I haven't gotten a virus since.

Also, I reformat like once every 3-6 months anyway, backing stuff up to external hard-drives / network shares / etc.
