I'm thinking about getting another car when I'm back in WA for a few weeks in between my classes down here in Lemoore. Right now, I've had a Honda Civic for 10 years, and it's getting up there in miles (got 145,000 on it now, and still have 1,000 mile trip back up to WA). It's still running decent, but it's had a problem ever since I got down here (only rev's up to 4000 RPM's, when the red-line limit is 8,000). Now, I'm sure I could get it running again and have it for another 10 years, but it's only a 2-door, and with 2 kids now, a 2-door car is IMPOSSIBLE to get 2 car seats and 2 kids in and out....time to upgrade to a 4-door car, finally! Now, I've got it (probably) narrowed down to 2 cars, and I wanted to see if you guys have heard anything about either one of these. The 2 cars I'm thinking about getting are both Dodge's...the Avenger or the Caliber. Anyone heard anything good or bad about these?? Is Dodge even a good car anymore? Please enlighten me....

My buddy has a Caliber and he's never had any problems with it. The Avenger is nicer looking in my opinion but I dont know much about either to be honest.

Accords engines are the same as civics engines, They dont DIE. You wont have problems intill 300,000 but judging by your honda you had sounds like there is a problem with the rev limiter or if its a V-tec than your V-tec is jammed and not pushing over. But definently sounds like something is jammed, rev limiter is broken, wire loose/crossed

i don't know much about either, but my friend in Denver has an avenger and it rode pretty smooth. are you looking to stay in that avenger kinda price range? if not, go for a nissan altima or maxima. they're badass, especially the v6.

id say stay with Honda. Since you had one that lasted for so long you know you can trust it.

I would also recommend a new civic, they are great trouble free cars and are economical. Autotrader would be a great site for you to get various quotes on the cars. I would request quotes from a few local dealers in the cars that you are interested in and print them out and take them to the other dealers and let them try and/or match/beat the offer you received. You would be surprised how great a deal you can get through lowered prices or other extra incentives.

I wouldn't buy a dodge. Go with another Honda or maby a Toyota depending on your price range. If you want American go Chevy. You could buy a impala or Malibu. But personal choice my fav cars/trucks are Toyota's. Im about to buy a new tacoma.

suv's take too much gas, and that just isn't economical now, i agree with the honda/toyota suggestion.

Look into the Nissan Versa. It's what I drive, and I love it. It's fuel efficient, and has enough room for me and AngryKitten + 3 other people.

Also, 6speed transmission FTW.

Ive heard that Dodge's have really bad electrical systems. Personally I would say go for a Honda/Toyota just cause they're the most economical cars out there right now. I have a 99' Ford Ranger and this bitch has been through 3 accidents and has fucked shit up thats crossed its path but it totally isnt the best on gas (3.1L v6). Ford doesnt have too many family car models that I can think of. Go for a Honda Accord, Toyota Yaris(small but its badass on gas. My wife has a 2008 Yaris), Honda Pilot, Toyota Rav4 4WD v6.

There are tons of Mazda 3's out there, you could easily get a deal on one of those and my body loves his. The Mazdz 3 fits in the catagory as to what you looking for and is really roomy too. I have not heard anything of the Avenger but I have heard if your tall or not thin the Caliber is not the most comfortable.
