I'm getting the Samsung Vibrant...I'm so stoked...shit is siiiiiiiccckkkkkk...anyone get one yet? My dad picked one up the other day...it's full of all kinds of badassness...It's screen is literally as high def as the new Samsung LED TV's...I want to just smash my MyTouch on the ground now :/

i'm sprint so i was looking at the epic 4g (sprint's samsung next-gen phone), which i still may end up getting.

however, i have a HTC hero shipping in today which I'll root to froyo immediately. should be a good comprimise of value & featureset. excited to try out android.

Anyone have experience rooting android? i'm pretty impressed this far but this phone will supposedly never get 2.2 or higher so rooting is the only option.

I still don't see why people get so excited over a damn cell phone.

also, I've rooted & hacked this $100 phone to run the latest & greatest, android froyo. If I can do it anyone can.

I used to have the cliq on my mytouch, its not that hard. Just try not to brick it.

That's the CyanoGen ROM and really high level instructions.


That thread says to root, backup, etc etc. First, root it using androot. Download here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753910 and put onto your SD card. Also copy the ROM from the first thread over

Next, go to android store and install a couple things:
1) Estrongs file explorer (and the other 2 free estrongs pieces as well)
2) Download ROM Manager by clockworld but dont run it yet.

Run Estrongs File Explorer, find and run your androot

it'll do a bunch of shit

then basically follow the directions in the first thread, but instead of worrying about the details, handle them in ROM manager. it handles backups, restores, data wipes, etc.

be careful with the rom manager lol, while typing this i hit the wrong thing and semi-bricked. may have to restore a backup LOL

when you get that phone can you tell me how it is? I've beeen lookn for a new phone but sprint doesn't have a great android collection yet. And been lookn at the HTC Evo but that thing is huge

Sure-- got it today (next day air ftw) and it's great. Slower processor so it doesnt run sprint/HTC's overlay very well which is why I think rooting it is the way to go.

It feels like a cheaper phone but I suppose that's cause it is. Thing is, it's running software that's leaner and newer than any other handset out ther other than the discontinued G1.

Other than that it seems to do things pretty good, rooted it's pretty snappy.

If you rooted it you can overclock it :) I stepped mine up only one notch, but from what I can tell it's pretty stabel going up a few.

sweet-- do you have a guide link handy? i did google it but everything i found looked a little shady.

Turns out the ROM i used had OC already part of it.

Running cyanogen 6 stable, swype keyboard, life is goooood :)

This platform is so goddamn much more open than anything. You literally can download hacks from the app store. I assume viruses too.
