Post Dear Jim Whitehead:
I got a letter from this guys campaign in the mail today. I emailed this to him as a response:

Quote:
I received a letter today from the Jim Whitehead for Congress campaign about Congress, again, wasting my tax dollars on the pointless mind-rot of toilet standards.

I wasn't aware that this had even taken place, but honestly it doesn't surprise me. Honestly, it doesn't surprise me that I got a campaign letter trying to capitalize on the outrage that should be generated by a commonplace event in Congress.

These wastes of money don't need to be used to get votes anymore. We know they happen. For the most part, we've stopped caring.

The big thing that people care about these days is tax reform. We especially like the Fair Tax bill.

Why bother telling us that the money that Congress has already taken from us with the force of law backing it is being spent wastefully? That's like telling a woman who got raped that not only is she physically wounded, she is mentally and emotionally wounded.

The government can basically come in to my house and point a gun to my head and tell me to give them as much money as they deem necessary so they can give it to other people and give it to things like the World Toilet Summit.

I can't go up to someone and put a gun to their head and say give me your money so I can give it to a homeless family or talk about standards in devices that move excrement from point A to point B.

I have no say in how much of my money is taken and it's quite a detriment to my personal freedoms.

If there was a tax system in place that allowed me to tell the government how much money I want to give them based on my own conscious decisions to buy items that are not of a necessity to me, not only am I more in control of my money, but I'm more in control of my government.

Basically, the moment I know that you, Jim Whitehead, will do your damnedest to make my voice supporting the far tax heard in Washington, D.C. is the moment you have secured my vote. But on the other side of the coin, the moment I realize that you aren't following through on your promise is the moment that you lose my support, kind of like Congressional Republicans in 2006.

Get me a more freedom oriented taxation system, then we'll talk about pork spending.

Thank you for reading this,

Steven Johnson

P.S. Also, on a more humorous note, if you want to run on eliminating pork, please openly express the want to abolish Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and welfare (since most of those came in to existence only to pull us out of an economic depression that ended over 60 years ago). That will secure my vote. But then again, it will only secure my vote and then secure no other votes for you.
